"Itachi?"
He looks up from what he was doing. "What?"
"Do you ever think of Mother and Father?" I ask. "Sasuke?"
His mouth presses into a tighter line than usual and his jaw clenches slightly in response. He didn't seem angry; annoyed maybe? I wasn't sure. Itachi was hard to read. "No. Why would I?"
I shrug my shoulders. "I don't know. I think about them sometimes though. I think I'm starting to forget what they looked like."
"What's your point Tsuna?"
"It's sad."
He sighs. "Then why do you think about it?"
"I need a reason to keep getting stronger. That way I can kill whoever took them away from us."
He laughs. I stare at him as he turns his attention back to what he was doing. Not only did he just show me that I wasn't worth holding a conversation with, he laughed at the idea of me getting stronger.
"You never told me who killed them." I say with a glare.
He looks back up to me, his eyes darker than usual. "When you can prove to me that you're strong enough to kill them, I'll tell you."
"I know it's really late for me to start training as a shinobi, but will you please help me?" I beg. "I promise I won't get in your way, I'll be of more use to you this way anyway!"
"You haven't even awakened your sharingan. How could you possibly be of use to me as a shinobi?"
"It's not my fault! No one ever taught me how." I pout.
"It's not something that can be taught, Itsuna. You don't have enough hate."
"How is that supposed to help? It seems like you don't even want to help me get it." I complain. Not being hateful should be a good thing, not a punishment!
"You're getting on my nerves." he says. "I can't help you with your sharingan. It manifests when you lose an object of your affection. When you lose the thing that you love the most in this world, your love turns to hatred, and as a result you obtain the sharingan."
"Then I'll never get it, Itachi!"
"Why's that?" he asks returning his attention back to his book.
"Because you're what I love the most." I say and he looks at me again. "We've always been together. I came into this world with you, and when you leave this world so will I. I will never lose you, so I won't be able to feel the hatred you say I need to awaken the sharingan." I explain.
He shakes his head and returns his attention toward his reading once again. "That's why you're weak."
"I'd rather be weak then live a hate filled life. I can't imagine how miserable you must be if you've allowed yourself to be so consumed with hate to obtain the power that you have." I say angrily.
"With great power comes great sacrifice." he mumbles response.
"I may be weak now but I'll show you. I'm going to be strong and I'm going to obtain the sharingan. I'm going to do it my way too!" I yell.
He snaps his book closed in a manner that indicated he was angry, but he didn't seem angry in the slightest. Extremely annoyed? More than likely, but I didn't care. His pessimism was getting on my nerves.
He stands up and makes his towards me. With a sigh he places his hands on my shoulders which told me he was definitely annoyed. "Prove me wrong then." he says with a small smile. I nod my head with as much determination as I could muster so that I could tell him that I was going to do just that without actually saying it. He presses his lips to my forehead. "Good night."
