I pull open my bedroom door and I walk out, my bare feet padding on the cold hardwood floors. As if on cue, Ava's door opens and she runs out. She pulls me aside and stares into my eyes.
"Don't mention to them that Michael is my boyfriend okay?" Her blonde eyebrows are raised and her big blue eyes are wide.
"Okay? Why don't you want them to know? And I wasn't going to mention what we did last night either. I don't like either one of them enough to tell." I'm guarding my mouth as I speak. I was just heading to the bathroom before Ava pulled me aside.
"They don't....approve of Michael. They think he's a low life who is a troublemaker and womanizer." Ava explains. She shakes me by my shoulders and stops. I blink to get rid of the dizziness. "So please don't mention anything or even say his name."
"I won't. I promise." I say.
"Thank you so much." Ava pulls me in for a hug and disappears back into her bedroom, closing the door lightly behind her.
They don't know that she's dating Michael? I thought she was the goody two shoes who did everything her mommy and step-daddy told her. And why can't she date Michael? She's seventeen and it's her life. Michael seems like he loves her. My dad seemed like he loved my mom...but he didn't...
I walk into the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. After doing that, I walk downstairs and into the kitchen. Cindy was making breakfast and my dad sat at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and reading the paper. Ava was sitting at the island drinking coffee as well.
"Good morning, Liv," Cindy says as she looks up from the stove.
"Yeah." I say. "Such a good morning."
She smiles and I roll my eyes. "Note the sarcasm."
Cindy's smile fades. I feel eyes piercing the back of my head. Either Ava was looking at me or my dad. Most likely my dad.
"Liv, you really have to watch your attitude. Apologise to Cindy." He says.
I scoff and I grab an apple from the island. Biting into it, I make eye contact with the Malibu Barbie.
"I'm so deeply sorry for my 'horrible' behavior, please, please forgive my teenage soul." Sarcasm was dripping with every word. The words were coated with venom. I spin around after placing the apple back on the island and I jog up the stairs.
Dad was calling my name repeatedly...I ignored him.

I throw on a pair of dark rinse, mid-thigh shorts and a red spaghetti strap. I grab my light, knit sweater and shrug it on. I slip on my red ballet flats and I grab my purse, phone, and wallet.
I walk across the hall and knock on Ava's door. She opens it immediately and smiles.
"Hey," I say. "I'm going down to the beach. Want to come?"
"Sure! Let me text Michael!" She pulls her phone out from the back pocket of her shorts and beams.
Maybe I should text Calum...invite him maybe? I pull my phone out as well and I click on Calum's icon.
Me: Hi, Calum. It's me, Liv. Ava & I are going to the beach & I was just wondering if you wanted to tag along. You can invite Luke, Ashton, & their girlfriends if you want.
I sent it and almost immediately I got a response. Ava clicks her phone off and she turns off the light in her room.
I pull up the message:
Calum: Hey, Liv (: yeah, I can come. Luke, Ashton, & Lillian are coming. Addison can't make it. We'll see you there in fifteen xoxo
I chuckle at his response and someone snaps. My head shoots up and I lock eyes with Ava.
