Julian and Alexis

Julian grumbles to himself, sweeping the pine nettles out the door. Alexis bounces down the stairs, a smile on her face. "Doing your daily duties?" She asks.
"I hate this stupid, living tree. We're getting a fake tree or no tree next year. I'm not dealing with this again." He complains, throwing the broom on the ground and grabbing a cup of water, getting on his knees near the tree. "I gotta sweep every morning, than water it, then I gotta-"
"Calm down?" Alexis asks, lowering herself onto him, pinning him to the ground.
"I'm not dealing with a live tree next year. We're either getting a fake one or I'm telling Leo that Santa isn't real." He threatens.
Leo gasps from the stair landing. "Santa isn't real?"
Julian and Alexis jump up. "No, no he is. Daddy was just making a joke. I don't mean it."
     "Bu-but-"
"Leo, don't worry your little head about it. Daddy was just joking. Like he said. There is a Santa." Alexis promises, opening her arms for her step-son to hug her. He does. "Don't worry, Daddy's not gonna make any more awful jokes like that."
