Prologue

Accidents happen, right?

When someone says that you don't find destiny, it finds you, believe them. It was the last weekend of summer vacation and just as I thought everyone in Dunbar County was going to be on Skeleton Island for a last minute camping trip.

"Look who decides to finally leave the queer cave they call a bedroom." Luke Hutchinson laughed folding his arms as he stood on a pile of rocks over by the edge of the cliff overlooking the water and the main land. I was reading up on some Shakespeare on a patch of grass when the 5'6 jerk decided to interrupt without permission. I rolled my eyes at him and he threw a tiny pebble at my lap.

"You know I wonder what would happen if I pushed you over the edge?" I asked sarcastically. "I just want to see you try." He challenged. Luke wasn't just any old ordinary teenage boy. He was Seashore High's star Swim team champion and a prized possession. The faculty, staff, teachers, students and school board administrators worshipped the very ground he walked on.

I shook my head at him and returned my attention back to the book. I heard him sigh and took a seat on the ledge, his feet dangling as he watched as the sunset fell behind the water's edge. "You know there's a full moon tonight." He said a smile in his voice. "What's so exciting about that?" I asked taking off my glasses and setting them on the book next to me. "Weird stuff happens here on the night of a full moon." He said the intensity building in his voice.

"Don't let Luke Hutchinson get to you." A voice started from in the bushes next to the fig tree. "Who said that?" Luke asked. A leg wearing black skinny jeans with bare feet emerged itself and then came an arm and then a full body. It was Titus Shaw, Seashore High's bad boy. He was the guy who broke every girl's heart he's ever been with.

He took a seat next to me and I moved over a bit. 'I heard he smelled like animals blood.' I thought to myself. I took a sniff. He smelled like passion fruit. I frowned and readjusted my posture on the grass and he bumped my shoulder. I sent him a small smile and he stared off at the sun set. "It's beautiful." He smiled.

I shrugged and pulled my legs to my chest resting my chin on my knees wrapping my arms around my shins.

"Is that a shark?" Luke started. My heart began to race as I watched him lean more over the ledge to stare down at God only knew what. I got on my knees and crawled over slowly when an arm grabbed my left ankle from the back. It was Titus shaking his head from side to side. I took a gulp and tugged my ankle away and slowly crept over to Luke's side when the rocky terrain below startled me. He grabbed my shoulders and began to rock me back and forth throwing off the balance I had on my hands when I felt myself suddenly begin to fall.

I felt a strong tug at my arm from above. I looked up to find Titus gritting his teeth trying to pull me back up. I was speechless. "A LITTLE HELP OVER HERE WOULD BE NICE LUKE!" He yelled. Suddenly he reappeared and his hands wrapped around my upper elbow as he held on tight to a tree root above.

They began hauling me up and as they did I kept eye contact with Titus, not looking down once. As my knees touched solid ground Titus grabbed me into his arms. "Are you okay?" He asked. I nodded in his chest. He wasn't gay or anything, he was just that type of guy who looked out for people.

Luke's face was filled with fear when he realized what it was he had just almost done. Suddenly a crumbling sound started beneath us and before you knew it we were falling. We were screaming at the top of our lungs before it all ended before we splashed into the water below. The waves stirred us about. As I circled around in the water I caught a glimpse of Luke making his way onto a rocky cove. Titus was heading in the same direction. I used huge strokes swimming over.
