Batman set off for Arkham a few minutes later, flying in true Batman fashion (swinging from building to building with his grappling hook).  As he swung, he let his thoughts drift to the Joker.  Batman would never admit it, of course, but he was kind of glad the Joker might escape. He needed something to do, some more purpose. He had some of that in caring for Dick, his beloved adopted son, but that just wasn't the same. Batman missed the thrill of the chase, the adrenaline, the high  stakes. He might go even as far as to say he missed the man.
He broke off from his train of thought as a rather large drop of rain splattered loudly on the nose of his cowl. He shook his head, mentally cursing Gotham's terrible weather.

Batman arrived at the gates with a splash.
He looked down to see he had jumped straight into a giant puddle. Grumpily, he stomped through it, and reached the intercom.
"Hello, who is it?"  said the crackly intercom, just as he was about to press the button. Batman found that slightly strange, but presumed there was a camera somewhere in the vicinity.
"Hello?" crackled the intercom again.
"Oh, sorry. Hello, it's me, Batman." he replied hastily.
The gates swung open with a creak, and immediately the smell of hospital washed over him. Batman hated that smell.
He strode in, and knocked at the door. After a short pause, it was opened by a young boy of about nineteen.
"Apprenticeship then, eh?" Batman asked him.
"Y-Yeah. Me mum set me up for it, 'cause her f-friend works 'ere too." stammered the boy.
"Now, I'm here to see the Joker." said Batman, wanting to get there as soon as possible.
"Um, yes. Right this way, Mr- uh Sir- um..."
"Batman"
"Right, um- okay. Follow me."
