What do you do when you have a whole town to yourself? When you can go where you want, do what you want, live how you want with no repercussions?

Those are some of the questions that go through Holly Parker's head every day, every day for the last 20 years.

Holly lived in the biggest house in Mystic Falls. It had been owned by a family called the Salvatore's. Well it would have done if they existed, in this world at least.

For the last 2 decades it had been home to her and her alone. She was trapped, imprisoned, living the same day in the same town over and over and over again.

The only person she was aware of that existed in this prison was her brother Kai, the man responsible for her enforced solitude. She never saw him, never crossed his path.

It was like he kept his distance on purpose, he wanted her to be scared about when he'd next turn up, about when he'd finally kill her. He'd slaughtered the rest of their siblings, why not her too? Her misery was his entertainment.

One particular morning, another May 10th 1994 in a big long list, Holly woke up and began her daily routine. She did the same thing every day, on repeat, again and again. She'd become a stuck record and had no way to press play. Not until now any way.

Who knew that a Fleetwood Mac song would mark the beginning of it all ending?

Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise.
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies......

Holly played The Chain every morning as she washed and got dressed. It was her favourite song, the one thing that she looked forward to when she woke up each day.

.......And if, you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (Never break the chain)
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me ag........

Suddenly and for no reason the song just stopped, the silence it left behind sending a shiver down Holly's back.

"What the hell?" Holly whispered to herself as she thought on what this could mean. Why did it stop? How did it stop? It wasn't the disk. She kept good care of it, she couldn't risk it getting scratched. No this was something else. It had been stopped on purpose, it had been stopped by someone. Kai. It had to be Kai.

Slowly and with nerves wracking her body, Holly quietly made her way down the stairs and towards the kitchen where the CD player was kept. Why had her brother decided to turn up now? What was he planning?

Turning the corner and finally coming face to face with the person who pressed pause on her song and play on her day, she froze, unable to comprehend what she was seeing. Who she was seeing.

"You're not Kai."

"No. I'm Damon Salvatore. Who the hell are you?"
