We Get Named

When the others woke up and were given the all clear the next day, we started training as a team.

A few weeks later, we worked almost seamlessly.

"Ryker!" Renée called out to her brother. He sent a wave of flames in her direction and she redirected them to one of the dummies we were fighting.

The dummies moved as well, to make it harder for us.

Gotta love WW technology!

That was sarcasm.

"Little help, someone!" I heard Louis call out.

I glanced over quickly. He was stuck in a headlock.

I cursed and wrapped my dummy in vines, immobilising it for the time being.

As I ran over to Louis, I made small tree stumps appear for me to step on to get more height.

When I reached him, I jumped off the highest one, about as tall as my mid-thigh, and latched my legs around the dummy's neck.

The dummy dropped Louis, who staggered to his feet and raised his hands.

"When I say go, jump off!" He shouted.

I nodded. The smell of ozone filled the air.

"And... GO!"

I sprung off into a backflip, landing on my feet about a meter or so away.

The dummy was a pile of ash and scorched wires.

So were the ones Ryker and Renée fought.

Each one Marina fought against, however, was short-circuiting.

Mine were either absorbed into the ground or covered in plants that held them to the earth.

We all high fived one and other as we walked out.

"Nice work, guys." Ryker grinned. "Who's paying for pizza?"

"It's Ash's turn!" Marina pointed to me with a grin.

"Thanks, Rina." I teased. "You know I'm bankrupt."

"Nah, you're not." Louis laughed. "Now go order. You know what we like."

The five of us and our trainers had been moved to the World Watch Land Base. This was good because now we could order pizza.

I ordered what everyone wanted and then went back to them.

The pizza had come and we were sitting around a small table on cushions.

"So," I said. "I was thinking... We should have codenames."

Renée sat forward. "Why?"

"Well, if we're going to go out and do stuff to help people, we need codenames so no one will know it's us," I replied.

"That means we'll also need suits." Louis stepped in.

Ryker and Marina were too busy scoffing their pizza.

"Okay..." Renée said. "We'll need a basis for our names. If we're working in a group, we should do that."

"Yeah. How about we call ourselves... The Extremes." Louis said.

"Why?" Renée asked.

"Cos our powers are very extreme."

I snorted. "But they're the elements. Maybe something to do with that?"

Marina sat up and clicked her fingers. "The Elements, then."

"No, The Elementals." Ryker put in.

We all thought that over.

"Okay," I said. "Who votes for The Elementals?"

I opened up my laptop and set up a document.
Everyone raised their hands.

"Well, that's unanimous." I typed it up. "The Elementals, it is."
