The drive to the mall was long and tedious. The same statement rushing through my mind again and again.
I had to win.
I didn't know exactly what I had to win but all I knew is that I had to win. I couldn't look like a girl who had been emotionally wrecked by the whole situation. On January 2nd 2015, I had to look strong and tough and nonchalant. Because I knew how the day was going to turn out if I run into the inevitable of seeing him. It would play one of which two ways. The 'Oh My God, it's so good to see you' way. Or the 'I'm pretending I can't remember who you are' way. And as we're talking about Luke Hemmings it would probably play out to be the second way. Bitch.
But I promise you, I don't care.
Thankfully the mall wasn't overly busy. And this meant shopping was a lot more relaxed. On the email it said to wear formal wear, aka dress.
We searched for the perfect dress store after store until I found it. An all black body-hugging dress that showed off my hourglass figure and toned long legs.
In high school I wasn't exactly the ugliest girl ever but that didn't make me the prettiest. I was just normal. I didn't really care about my appearance until one night where I found myself going through endless possibilities of why Luke could do something so unfair to me. My insecurities kicked in and all I could care about was what I looked like. In college all I would fantasise about was me going to the gym after school for two hours to have the "perfect figure".
But those insecurities faded when I saw the result of all the hard work I had put myself through. I had achieved the body I had wanted since I was fourteen. All in all you could say I was damn well proud of myself and enjoyed showing my body off. If that makes me a slut so be it.
"Oh my fucking god Allie, you're so fucking hot. Luke will be crawling on his knees to get back into your pants."
"Abbie you know that those aren't my intentions, I'm only wearing this dress for me." But the thought of Luke seeing me like this after four years brought a smirk to my face. I was no longer the weird, nerdy, lanky, really awkward girl he had been with but now a less awkward, confident, decent looking girl he will never get to have again.
I wandered around the store trying to find a matching pair of high heels to go with my dress. Damn, why must everything be so expensive? And where the hell is Abbie I swear she was here a seco- ahh.
"Get down!" she said whispering leaving me completely and utterly confused. We were now on the floor hiding behind and the sexy lingerie stand.
"Have you lost your mind woman what is the matter with you?" I asked giving the few passers by apologetic looks as if to say sorry for my mental friend.
"Don't make it obvious but to the left of me I'm pretty sure that Ashton Irwin is looking in the socks section."
"No way."
After a brief totally not obvious peak it took me about ten seconds to analyse that 1 - Ashton one of my old best friends is here, after us not interacting for four years it's going to be let's say awkward if he sees me. 2 - He absolutely smokin' hot omfg. 3 - The obvious possibility that the rest of them are probably here in this mall breathing the same air as me and 4 - what am I even doing with my life?
"Christ alive Abbs what are we going to do?"
"He's cute."
"ABBS!" I practically screamed (whispered).
"Okay sorry, erm just look at the floor and walk out of the store, oh that rhymes!" she giggled.
"I do not appreciate your jokes at a time like this, were basically fucked. Oh my god we are so fucked. Thank you universe once again. Oh Christ we are so fucking well fucked."
"Allie he's gone."
"Really? That easy? I don't believe it."
But to my dismay there he was Ashton Irwin in all his glory walking past the shop window.
"Okay. I believe it."
We both slowly stood up from behind the sexy lingerie to a crowd of confused faces.
Abbie's cheeks turned a bright red. "Ha, lost earring!" And with that we both ran out the store catching our breath because of the fits of laughter we were in.
"We are so embarrassing." she said while grabbing onto my arm.
"I hope we're not like this next week." I snorted.
A deep voice interrupted our laughs. "Like what next week?"
I turned slowly and gave the guy in front of me a small smile. "Hey Isaac."
Oh for fucks sake.
