Lorena

I was finishing up some of my homework that my teachers assigned to me a few days before. since dia de los Muertos is tonight, I wont have much time left to do it if I procrastinate.

"Lorena! Come help your abuela out with the food!" I heard mama call as I quickly finished writing the last answer down on the sheet.

"ok!" I said making my way to the kitchen.

my abuela came and hugged me and began to talk about how exciting it was that tonight was when our familia could come and see us again. I was sort of zoning out because I've heard this about a million times already, until she snapped her fingers in my face trying to get my attention.

"lorena listen to me when I talk to you," she instructed me.

"alright, now what did you want help with?" I asked her.

"just mix those ingredients while I finish this dish," she told me handing me a whisk and pointing to a bowl filled more than half way with ingredients.

I just stirred as mama and abuela talked to each other. While I was doing so, I saw Miguel walk in. my mom and grandma went to hug him ask asked him about his day. he went to the plaza early this morning. why you may ask? I personally have no idea, I guess he was just getting food or decorations or something like that because he was carrying some bags.

he came over to where I was standing and placed the bags next to the bowl.

"hey whats up?" I ask.

"not much," he replies looking into the bowl, "whats that?"

"I honestly have no clue," I told him as I finished stirring.

"Louisa! Mama! Can you help us with some decorations?" I heard my papa call.

"sure!" they replied walking out of the kitchen.

Miguel walked over to the cabinet will all of the dry ingredients like sugar, flour, you know all of that stuff.

Miguel

I walked over the cabinet and opened it hoping to find some flour. I wanted to play around with Lorena, so I grabbed what I saw, took some of the flour out, and blew it at her.

she looked at me shocked and began laughing as she grabbed another bag of flour throwing some at me. we began chasing each other around the kitchen throwing flour all over the place trying to hit one another.

we both ended up slipping and falling on the floor laughing. we ,must have been too loud because I heard someone or something at the door.

"oooooooo," the voice said.

I immediately knew who it was, our little sister Socorro standing in the kitchen with some flour on her feet.

"im telling," she said turning out to go find mama.

"NO!" Lorena and I both yelled in unison.

lorena rushed to pick her up while I took a look at the kitchen.

"oh my..." is all I could say.

"gosh," she finished.

the kitchen floor was mostly covered in a thin layer of white. the counter and island had flour all over it, and there was some flour floating in the air.

"let me gooooo," Socorro whined in lorenas arms.

"shhhh Socorro! youll get us in trouble!" we shushed her.

"let me GOOOOO!" she screamed.

lorena and I looked at each other panicked as we tried to shush her, but we were too late.

"AY! MY KITCHEN!" abuela yelled.

"Miguel and lorena! what happened here?" mama asked.

just then papa came in too, "what in the world?"

"what is all of this?" abuela asked as she took a rag and began wiping the counters off.

both lorena and I stayed silent.

"Miguel and lorena, answer your abuela," papa commanded.

"well you see," we both said in unison.

"ugh one at a time please," mama said taking Socorro from lorena.

"well, you see, I wanted to play a joke on lorena so I threw was going to thro flour at her, but I tripped and spilled it all over the floor instead, its all my fault," I lied not wanting to get lorena in trouble.

"lorena is that true?" my mama asked.

"no, we both did it," she confessed.

I mentally face palmed, now she will probably be grounded and so will I , on dia de los Muertos.

"you two are lucky its a holiday, or else I would send both of you straight to your rooms for the rest of the night," mama said to us, "now you two clean up this mess and finish making the food."

at least the punishment wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. we both grabbed wet towels and got to work.

time skip

the sun was going to set soon, and lorena and I just finished getting ready for dia de los Muertos. we had spent around an hour cleaning the kitchen, and about two more making the food, so we were pretty tired but still excited for the night to come!
