In New York City it is always busy. If it isn't for the small streets and the millions of people, New York wouldn't be New York. I love it, though. Sure people there can be rude, but It feels likes home to me and I've only lived here for four years.

Four years ago I was an eighteen year old girl who lived in Southern California. I left sunny California for dreary New York for a reason. I wanted to become a photographer. I had just graduated high school and I had got accepted to the New York Film Academy. I did three years and got my bachelors degree.

After dropping out, I got an apartment that was affordable. The apartment building I'm living in isn't big like the other ones around New York. Nor is it expensive, but it is nice and clean, and has good management. Despite all the noises going on outside, it's alright.

Then I went job searching and found out that Cosmopolitan was hiring. They were looking for experienced photographers. I signed up because I knew I had the experience they were looking for. From when I joined the photography club at school, and when I studied photography at NYFA.

After two months of living in New York, I started getting in a habit. Every night I will stare at the city from my balcony while enjoying a glass of red wine.

The sounds going on in the streets felt comforting. I will lean on the balcony rail and just listen until I start to feel tired. When that happens I head back inside my apartment, clean up, and do my bedtime routine. Take a shower, brush my teeth, put my hair up, and, sometimes, get a little snack.

The first night of my stay here had been a living hell. I wasn't used to all the noises outside. It took me a month to finally get used to it and to get a good night's sleep.

Also for the four years I've been living here, the apartment next door to mine has been empty. I didn't know that until one of my neighbors told me.

When I first found out I was on a floor by myself, I was afraid. I couldn't help but think of the what ifs. Like what if someone broke into my apartment and no one will be able to hear what's going on. Or what if I have an emergency and no one close by would be able to help me.

Now, I've got used to being on a floor by myself, and I dread for someone to move in. I enjoy the peace and quiet, and I don't want it to end.
