“You’ll call me as soon as you get back, right?” My handsome blonde friend stated nervously as he pulled me into a bone crushing hug.
I hugged him back and smiled. I pulled away to nod my head. “I will Niall, I promise.” I picked up my carry-on bag and pulled out my plane ticket. “I’ll even text you, skype you, and facetime you.” I teased. I kissed his cheek and squeezed his hand one last time before I got on my flight and headed back to America.
I sighed, remembering the last time I saw Niall as I stared up at my ceiling, laying lazily on my bed. After the accident the doctor told me that I had short term memory loss, which I guess in other words means that the time I had spent with the boys has completely fluttered out of my conscious memory. After a few days I was finally able to leave the hospital and One Direction…I mean the guys, Riley, and a girl named Belle spent every second of the day trying to get me to remember something….anything. Liam showed me an Iron Man shirt, Belle and Zayn showed me her Hunger Games blanket, Riley showed me a batman mask, Niall and Harry showed me a pretty blue dress and Louis showed me a random pregnancy test. But the more they tried and the more they failed, the more frustrated I became. After a day or two I gave up and told them that I think it would be best if I just went home.
Now here I am staring at my ceiling, still frustrated. You have no idea how annoying and complicated it is to have a piece of your life missing. You constantly get this feeling of deva vu that you can’t shake and a feeling in the pit of your stomach that people are keeping things from you. But those are all feelings that I have to start learning to ignore because with the few months I’ve spent being home I’ve learned that I’m probably never going to get my memory back. Learning to ignore the constant déjà vu and paranoia doesn’t seem like the best idea to me but it’s pretty much the only option I’ve got.
I sit up in bed and sigh before I start organizing my binders, getting ready for my new semester of classes. As I’m in the middle of my process I hear a knock at the door. I look up and see my mom at the doorway. “Hey, Mom.” I said as I stop organizing. “What’s up?”
“I need to have a talk with you.” She replied seriously as she sat down on my bed and gestured for me to join her. I gave her a confused look, but didn’t say anything as I sat down next to her. “Your father and I have been talking and we’re worried about you.” She stated sternly.
I sighed. “Mom, I’m fine.” I replied, trying to reassure her.
My mom shook her head. “But you’re not. Ever since you’ve got home you’ve been moping in your room. Have you even spoken to Niall since you’ve got home?”
“He’s been busy with his tour.” I said, trying to defend myself even though I know she was right.
“I know, which is why I called him.” Before I could open my mouth to reply she stopped me. “Your father and I have agreed that it would be best if you took some time out of school, explore, stop stressing yourself out about your memory.”
“And you want me to relieve my stress by hanging out with the people who I forgot?” I asked incredulously.
“It’s not like you forgot everyone. You know Niall and Riley. They’ll be there too.” She said trying to talk me into it.
I sighed. “I can’t face them. You should have seen the constant looks of disappointment they gave me every time I would tell them I couldn’t remember anything.” I replied, sadly.
“Which is why they agreed not to put pressure on you. Your memory will come when it’s ready. This is just an opportunity for you to relax and have some fun with your friends.”
I bit my lip in thought and then finally decided to give in. “Okay, fine. When do I leave?”
“Tomorrow.” She said simply as she lightly patted my back and headed towards the door.
“Tomorrow?!?!?!” I asked in frustration. I shook my head and hugged my pillow to my chest, imagining how awkward this reunion was going to be. I looked up at my One Direction poster on my wall. “Looks like I’m joining you guys on tour.”
heyyy everyone!!! I'm so excited to continue writing!!! I would love for you guys to comment and let me know what you think :)
