Start from the beginning

jeongguk greets yerim today, after six months; six months of heartbreak for her, and six months of happiness for her, but why a sudden hey?

"hi," she returns the greeting, before turning her head back to her shoes to ensure that the shoelaces are tied properly. there is a moment of silence, before he speaks up softly, "you didn't double-knot your shoelace."

yerim has the habit of double-knotting her shoelaces, so that it won't come off that easily during dance practice. she chuckles to herself, while standing up, replying him," if i double-knot it, it may become too hard for me to let go in times of emergency but if i tie it like that, it is easier for me to just let go."

"you may trip and hurt."

"but i already did. even when i double-knot it, i still fell and hurt," she responds, while looking up to look at the male's face; the face that she remembers so clearly. his eyes are searching for hers, hoping that she could at least hold a decent conversation with him.

"it has been a long time," jeongguk mumbles, while rubbing his thumb and finger against each another on his right hand nervously. nodding her head, when she spots jieun entering the dance room. giving the male a small faint smile, "time passes so fast, yet we are still stuck here."

"yeah, another two years more before we can graduate from this dance academy." he nods his head along, still oblivious to the fact that jieun has arrived.

yerim glances back at him, when she notices taeyong waving to her from the corner of the room; shrugging her shoulders, she then states, "i am not carrying on dancing anymore. in fact, i am leaving this academy soon."

"why?" jeongguk raises an eyebrow, as he blurts out his question hastily, just as jieun appears beside him; jeongguk then glances down at her with slight surprise before looking back at yerim, with remorse and sorry in his eyes.

jieun then pipes along, with slight confusion, "why what?"

"i guess dancing just isn't for me," yerim replies, before grabbing her bag off the floor. "class is starting, see you two around then." with that, she heads off in the direction of taeyong, whose arms are wide open and ready to embrace her just as her tears roll down.

forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
'cause loving him was red

"are you seriously going to quit?" taeyong asks again, as he sits down beside her in the dance room. yerim looks up from her shoes, before laughing softly, "yeah, dance is seriously not for me."

"then why did you join then?"

just as he asks that question, jeongguk looks at her diagonally across the room which is surprising, since he can hear their conversation even though the room was somewhat packed.

holding the stare with the male, yerim then replies softly, "i guess i did it for out of impulse, i did it out of love. i did it because i was trying to see whether dance is a stranger like whether it was fun or not, and i did, and i made amazing memories and sad ones too. and then, i just realized dance wasn't really meant for me, and maybe, it should have remained as a stranger to me, just like it originally was. a stranger that i should have never met."

"what are you going to do then after leaving?" taeyong asks her, tilting his head in the direction of the other male, who is still staring at them silently.

yerim then laughs softly, as she leans against, "i am actually moving too."

taeyong widens his eyes, shaking his head slightly, "no way! how could you not tell me earlier?"

"well, i wanted to go secretly," she mumbles softly, while faking a smile just as the dance teacher enters, dismissing the end of the conversation. "i want to leave just the way i came. quietly, and secretly. just a plain blue me."

as the last class finally ends, yerim leans against the wall outside the dance studio just as a hand grabs her wrist, causing her to jump slightly but before she can even react, the other party begins dragging her down the hallway and enters an empty dance studio. glancing at the back of the other, which she has memorized so well, she then raises an eyebrow, before asking "is there something wrong?"

"why are you leaving?"

"cause i want to," she replies briefly, before gesturing towards the exit of the dance studio. "look, i need to meet taeyong so can i just go?"

"i am sorry," jeongguk whispers, his voice barely audible as he takes a step forward while yerim takes a step backwards. or rather, two.

at his statement, her heart aches again, as she looks away from him, "well, i am sorry too. i tried but i guess i just wasn't enough for you."

"i am so sorry; i didn't mean to end things in that way b-"

shaking her head as yerim gives the other a sincere smile, "i am really happy for you, so you know what, just stay that way. i rather see you smile than to be frustrated and annoyed and tied-down. continue being that red which i fell in love with and keep her since she is your lilac purple after all."

"and you are blue."

"you figured it out," yerim widens her eyes in surprise that jeongguk figured out and remembered. when they were together, yerim used to speak in color-language, and jeongguk will always ask her what she means.

he nods his head slowly, "we were purple, and you were my lilac sky."

were. at least she used to.

"i am glad to hear that then," yerim nods her head, while tightening her grasp around her bag strap. "i am honestly glad to hear that."

"i am sorry, yerim; i am really really sorry," he whispers, while attempting to reach his hand out to touch her face, as the other party takes a step backwards, avoiding his advances. yerim shakes her head, "there is nothing to be sorry for. i simply took the risk, and now, i need to pay for it."

"anyway, it is nice meeting you, jeongguk. it was nice knowing red, and being blue; nice trying to be lilac, and then, ended up being plain blue. i wish you forever happy," she mumbles softly, as she takes the first step forward in the direction of the exit, where taeyong is waiting for her.

loving you is simply red, jeon jeongguk.

author's note

oof. it has been a while since i updated this book, and i was so in the mood for an angst while listening to halsey, and the amount of tabs i ope just to find the meaning of the colors and constantly being 'ok this is so cool, i had no idea.' to then binge-watching videos and stuff. heh.
