( n. ) falling out of love with someone because they changed too much as a person
'you were red and you liked me because i was blue
you touched me and suddenly i was a lilac sky
and you decided purple just wasn't for you'
yerim's whole life revolves around colors ― they are important to her because somehow, they remind them about how privileged she is able to live to see such beautiful and amazing colors in the world. and the more beautiful part is that each color has a meaning to it and somehow, each color reminds her of him.
you're dripping like a saturated sunrise
you're spilling like an overflowing sink
you're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece
and now you're tearing through the pages and the ink
red is supposedly the color of energy, passion, ambition and determination. kim yerim saw that in jeon jeongguk the first time they met, when he was practicing the same dance move again and again, even though it was considered to be perfect to her. a masterpiece is what he is, as deemed by her. a work of art ― flawless, perfect, beautiful even though he was slightly bruised at his kneecap or limped a little with his sprained ankle.
from one glance, yerim can tell that the male is the type to put in tons and tons of effort into whatever he is doing, and she can vouch for that with all the secret stares she throws in his direction. his passion, his love for dance or anything, is infinite, and just like his love for another woman, ― unending, forever, and a simple yet innocent one. yet, the red he bears for yerim herself, is merely an artificial one ―to cover up his wounds and to make use of when the other decides to reject him.
the way jeongguk talk about his crush tells yerim a lot about himself ― how he is so infatuated, so in love with her that yerim wonders whether her presence even means anything at times ― whether he keeps any memories of whatever the duo had, or is it only yerim herself, with that wishful thinking?
yellow is the color of the mind and the intellect ― optimistic and cheerful, yet impatient, coward and criticism. considered as a rather balanced color in fact and jeon jeongguk had yellow in him. she still remembers the day he met the setback of a rejection in his audition for kpop star, but the male still kept that smile on his face although the tears gave him away, and he told her this, "everybody is bound to meet a setback. mine is this for now and it will be gone. it is only temporary."
yet, yerim finds herself deeming him as a coward when jeongguk didn't dare to walk up to lee jieun to say a simple 'hello'; instead he stands by the sides and watches her in silence. to yerim jeongguk is a coward for knowing her love for him, yet not daring to reject her, just like how he didn't dare to make a move on jieun. how does she know? because she, herself too, is a coward to start or even end things with him despite knowing that his heart is never hers to begin with. she is a coward for being unable to accept the fact that he will never love her, or more specifically, love her the way she loves him.
green ― the color of balance and growth, which also means self-reliance or also, possessiveness. jeon jeongguk is green in many ways, both good and bad. He is an independent fine lad, who counts on himself despite the hardships that he faces, only seeking help if he desperately needs it. yerim remembers the time he gets up back on both of his feet by himself, despite his terrible backache; he even rejected her help, saying how one needs to know how to crawl back onto their own feet on their own or else, they can never move forward.
yet, he had the darker green within him ― envy, possessiveness yet it isn't for yerim. instead, it is for lee jieun. the jealous look he had that very day when she selected another student to be her dance partner revealed his true feelings to yerim, and at the very same time, shattered her heart. and yerim asked herself this, "wasn't i enough for you? wasn't i good for you? or was i just a simple statue for you lean on when you are tired and sick of everything? was i simply just an object, and nothing that i do will ever be like her?" but then, jeongguk turned around and gave that smile, causing all her inner questions to disappear as he holds his hand out while asking yerim to be his dance partner, and instantly, her doubts vanished.
