Lilly's Orphanage. A place for children with whom fate had played a very twisted game. For it was a loss that could never be recovered. A wound that could never heal. A scar that could never fade.
Violet Winters, Clara Grace and Dray Smith were too, the victims of this wicked fate. They were 16 but had seen too much. All of the kids at the orphanage had. After all, a child should have such a sick game be played with their lives. Two years. They would have to wait for two more years to truly leave this place. It wasn't home and it never will be.
The only good memories they had of this place were with each other. From strangers to acquaintances, from acquaintances to friends and from friends to family. They embarked on their journey alone, but were brought together by the paths that lead them. The paths which entwined their fates.
Dray was 13 when he arrived at Lilly's. His parents were lost in a plane crash, a flight from New York to Paris, leaving their only son to fend for himself. Dray grew up to be a handsome young man. His raven locks and warm, honey colored eyes were his charm. And add his muscular build to the mix, it was enough to make him look really attractive.
Clara Grace, a short redhead, began her new life at Lilly's at the mere age of 10. She had wise blue eyes, same as her father. Mr. Grace was a top investigator in the FBI. But when you hunt criminals, you're a target. And this was the very reason for his and his wife's demise. Clara was a beautiful girl and had a very good reputation. She just had that effect on people.
The last one of the group was Violet Winters. She was the one who had suffered most. It had been ten years. Ten years since she was left in this place. She can't remember much, or if any at all, of her life before all of this. Of a life outside the walls of this orphanage. It was all a blank, a clean slate.
It was a beautiful starry night in mid-September and cool breeze blew, softly swaying the trees. It was the kind of night where one would find peace by watching those billions of stars shining in all their glory. The kind of night which makes you forget all your worries. The kind of night that makes you think, makes you feel that everything is perfect. And it was the same kind of night that ruined Violet's life. September 17th
How cruel is the world? Such a beautiful night destroyed because of such a tragic moment.
They came in the dead of a night, a sleeping six-year-old cradled in their arms. With a heavy heart, they put her on the cold doorstep, rang the bell and then disappeared in the shadows. When Mrs. Jones, the caretaker of the orphanage, saw the girl, her heart ached. So she brought her inside. But before she could shut the door, she saw a note on the doorstep. Picking it up, she went inside and shut the door. 'They' emerged from the shadows and crept away into the night. Who 'they' were is a mystery till date.
The only things the girl was left with were the clothes and shoes she was wearing, a soft blue colored blanket she wrapped in, a beautiful pendent with an 'x ' charm and the note. The note didn't contain many words, but those words haunted her for the rest of her life.
I leave my daughter in your care. Her name is Violet Winters.
Violet was sixteen now and was turning into a beautiful young woman. Her dark brown hair cascaded into soft waves, reaching just below her chest. Despite spending those miserable years in the orphanage, her deep brown eyes held a spark of mischief. She had mastered hiding her emotions, but this was one trait she could never conceal.
The pendent always adorned her neck, though it was kept hidden from the world underneath her tees and shirts.
Their lives weren't easy, they were far from it. It took them time, but Dray and Clara were able to accommodate to their new lives. When they first came in the orphanage, Violet was one of the few people their age. So naturally, they tried to befriend her. It sure as hell was hard. Violet had trust issues, and so it took a hell lot of time. But they were able to break through those walls. When they were 15, Violet told them the truth about her past, how she ended up there. Both of them assumed it to be the reason of her inability to trust people. And so their lives went on.
The three teenagers were too different, yet the same. Clara was the smart one. She was gifted with a brilliant brain and could outsmart the best. From little everyday questions to the biggest problems in life, her wits were her weapon and her savior.
Dray was the understanding one. He was the one who held them together. It might sound funny, but Dray was the mother hen of their group. Somehow, he was always so calm and collected and always knew what to say. Emotions weren't Violet's strongest point, and she was thankful for the raven haired boy. And Clara, she trusted him with everything in her.
Violet was the troublemaker. Wherever she went, mayhem followed. She hid herself behind an emotionless mask, a façade. But with her friends, the real Violet Winters was unleashed. The Violet who was wild, reckless, mischievous and sassy. If you're lucky enough to win her trust, she would lay down her life for you. But if you got on her bad side, then you have hell to deal with. Violet was a wildfire and if made angry, could swallow everything in her path. So, she tried her level best to stay calm at school. But some things are inevitable. Some things just can't be avoided.
