It was Sixth form year, and the beginning of a new life in California for Riley. She felt very nervous... of course she was going to be nervous, it is her first day at Cali High School. Usually she wouldn't mind moving schools, as she did it quite often, but this time. It was different. Very different.
Riley was extremely tired and slept in, even though she had set five alarms and promised her mum she would wake up 'early' for once in her life. But of course she new that was never going to happen. "Holy Jesus!" She exclaimed, jumping to her feet. She read the time. "It's already 8." She quickly ran downstairs, chucked her messenger bag on and stole a bite of her fathers soft, buttery toast. "Bye dad, I'm leaving for school now." She shouted from afar.
"Whatever, stupid child. No one likes you any-" Charlie (Riley's father) was cut off mid sentence by the loud slam of the door, that had been forcefully shut behind Riley as she left the house. "Ugh..."
She approached the front entrance of the school gates as she noticed a group of 'Skater Boys' as she liked to call them, flirting with every girl that seemed passed them. There were whistles here and there and some 'come over here baby's' that had come out of their mouths. There was this one boy that stood out from the big crowd of teasing boys.
"Isaiah Mc'Laine" whispered a soft voice from behind Riley. "He's gorgeous isn't he?" She coughed abruptly. Riley turned around, being very cautious. "Sorry, it seems I haven't fully introduced myself yet. Hi, I'm Savannah, but you can call me Sav. Your name?" She asked in a sweet tone.
"Riley, Riley Peters. And you can call me Riley,"she added jokingly. Riley was sure that she was going to be friends with Sav, but there was something about her that her old friends didn't have. Sass.
"So... you new? I've never seen you around before." Savannah's smooth voice slowly faded as she watched Isaiah dribble his football past all of his friends in one swift movement, and she completely forget where she was for a moment or two. "Earth to Riley, you there?"
"Oh yeah, sorry," she replied in a quick manner. "Yeah I'm new. I just moved here last week from Ohio. I live in Lake Avenue, number 28."
"Oh! My! Gosh! We are totally neighbours!" Sav burst out in excitement. "How come you moved anyway?" She asked curiously. By this time they were walking down the crowded halls. People barging past, girls staring, and at one point, Riley thought she saw a fist being thrown into someone's nose causing it to gush with blood.
"Well long story short. My dad works in many different places, usually in the same state but sometimes it's somewhere further so we have to move. I'm sixteen now and I have moved 8 times in my life" she stopped with a sigh, "sorry I'm probably boring you with my pathetic life."
"No, no, no, not at all. I mean it must be hard for you to leave all of your friends behind." She replied sympathetically.
"Well, I never really had any friends at my old school. I was more the class clown."
"I'm here now so that doesn't matter anymore. Maybe at lunch I can show you all my friends and you can meet them, yeah?" She asked with a side smile showing her pearly white teeth.
"Errrmmm... yeah sure! I'd like that" she said with a touch of delight in her croaky voice, unlike Savs.
A loud bell rang echoing the halls. "Well, gotta run and get to class. You should do the same too. Don't wanna be late on your first day do you?" Savannah said walking down the corridors, meeting up with a couple friends along the way.
'Yeah, you're right. Dont wanna be late on my first day I guess.' She thought to herself. "Right. English it is." She walked into the colourful Shakespeare-decorated room with a sigh and eventually found a seat next to the glass Paine that blasted burning hot rays of sunlight through into her eyes.
