(Y/n) POV

"What do you think I should do Lauren?" I look up and over to my Best Friend with hopeful eyes. I was currently holding an application for an opportunity to become a foreign exchange student in Daegu, South Korea.

Junior year had ended just a week prior. The High School had sent me the application along with a letter that stated I and nearly 50 other students qualified to become an exchange student, but only one will be able to go.

And here I am, the next day on a Tuesday evening, at my Best Friend's home seeking her advice.

"I think you should follow your heart, (Y/n). You've always wanted to travel. I think this would be a great opportunity to go see somewhere other than this godforsaken town." She said while meeting my gaze with a wide smile.

Lauren has always been by my side ever since we met. It was an almost instant connection freshman year when we both had a Digital Imaging class. We've become sisters since then.

I returned a small smile before looking down at my hands grasping the paper, "I'd hate to go and leave you behind, especially since this will be senior year. I don't want you to be alone because of me."

This was the only reason stopping me from signing the paper.

"Babe, don't worry about me. I'll be just fine as long as you're out there living your best life! This is what you need. Who am I to stop you from becoming one step closer to going to the one country you've always wanted to visit? I'm okay with it as long as you contact me as often as you can." She stood up from her desk chair and walked over to her bed and sat down next to me.

"I think you should sign that application right now and put a smile on your face."

I glanced ahead to her window and saw the sun setting. "I think you're right. This would be a great opportunity. I mean, how many people can say they got the chance to travel?" I look at Lauren and gave her a hug only to soon come to tears in the process.

"Thank you s-so much for h-helping me. It really m-means the world." I'm basically wailing at this point. She pats my back after she notices.

"Anything for my Best Friend. Now get your ass back home before it gets too dark. I know how you get when you walk back home alone at night." She breaks the hug while laughing to start using her sweatshirt sleeve to wipe my tears away, and find myself giggling at the sudden change of tone in the meantime.

I get up from her bed and start gathering my belongings. "I'll text you when I get home. I think I'll send it in tomorrow. I should have my answer by Monday next week. I'll see you later!"

I hear her say a quick "Goodbye" before walking out her bedroom door, down her stairs, and out the front door after stopping to put on my shoes.

While walking home, I couldn't help but think about what it would be like. What could possibly happen? Would I make friends? Would I possibly meet a guy?

Thousands of questions came to my mind. There's no way I could actually win this. I shouldn't be getting my hopes up, it would probably end up crushing my dreams anyway.

After an almost 10 minute walk, I had arrived home. I went inside and straight up to my bedroom and plopped backwards on my bed looking at the white ceiling, while taking my phone out of my pocket and texting Lauren that I had made it home okay. I then tossed my phone next to my pillows and continued to stare at the off-white abyss.

Before I knew it, without even bothering to change my clothes, I had fallen asleep thinking about what could lie ahead.
