i dragged johnny home, very excited to help him with his pathetic love life

not that i could say anything of course

when he told me his situation, i smiled for the first time in a week

i had grown tired of helping kenzie with that huckleberry

john and i arrived home 10 minutes later, thanks to our driver

i loved being driven around, but i couldn't wait to drive on my own

another way to be independent, and not rely on the orlando's

though i was grateful for everything they did for me

i had called kenzie in the car, telling her we would be over in an hour

first, johnny and i needed to reassure mer and dale that we weren't spoiled brats

we needed to do our chores

the morning house keeper only made the beds, and cleaned the kitchen

when we arrived home, mer was waiting for us at the doorway

i expected her to yell at us for coming home so late, but only engulfed us in a hug

both us teenagers were shocked, but hugged her back

she wiped tears off her face, and ushered us to the dinner table

there was food there that didn't come from a takeout box

instead there was pasta and meatballs

but no dale

all three of us sat down and began eating

"so john, how has high school been for you so far?"

he was so shocked at what was happening, that he couldn't even form a proper response
