w. 2378
The next morning comes as hard and fast as any other. As your alarm rings, you groan and think for a moment about listening to Connor's instructions to stay home.
Once you're more awake, that seems totally irrational.
You get up and get ready for the day, trying to slap some makeup on your bruises. When that doesn't really work, you frustratedly wash it off and decide to proudly wear your wounds.
You dress in in a pair of loose-fit jeans and a striped t-shirt, throwing on a thick jacket overtop.
Having made your coffee and grabbed some gloves, you start your walk to the precinct.
The air is frigid and seems to simultaneously dry out and freeze your mouth, your only saving grace the hot coffee you grasp in one gloved hand.
The pain is a bit better today, though you think that might have something to do with the amount of painkillers you'd been popping since you got home.
Even so, you have a small bottle of Advil stuffed smartly in your bag.
The rest of the walk to the precinct is quiet, albeit a bit lonely, and you arrive thoroughly frozen.
As usual, there is not many people there.
The android at the front counter lights up when she sees you, giving you a little wave.
"How are you," you ask, grinning at the girl.
"I'm amazing," she says, bubbling a bit. "I'm getting paid to work here now!"
You swell with pride, "That's amazing! And so fast, I didn't know how fast they could make changes like this."
"Me neither," she says, clearly marveling at the fact herself. "Well, it was nice seeing you, Detective."
"You too!" With that, the female android pushes a button allowing your entry into the bullpen.
Graciously, there is no sign of Hank nor Connor yet, so you walk to your desk and start on reports while you sip your coffee. You get a good chunk of work done, pleased that you don't have to deal with reproachful remarks from the two guys.
Suddenly, your phone is ringing and the caller I.D reads, "Jared."
You groan slightly, you've been avoiding him since the revolution. You guess that now that must have to end. He's still your boyfriend, and he's still got some kind of control in your life.
"Hello?"
"Hey, are you okay," Jared's deep voice comes out of the speaker, sounding quiet and concerned. A tone you have not heard that voice take since you passed out one day in the heat with him.
"Yeah," you say, your own voice softening, "Sorry. I just got caught up with a lot of work stuff."
You hear a sigh from the other side. "Okay, can you come to mine tonight? I'll make some dinner."
You feel yourself relax. You had not expected Jared to be so accommodating to your silence, and had expected a long lecture on the subject.
But he's going to cook dinner for you.
"Yes. I'll stop by after work. Is around six okay?"
"Sure. See you then."
"Yeah, see you then. Love you."
