w. 1097

You are slightly taken aback. You'd come this far, what did he expect you to do? Sit on a crate and wait?

"No way in hell."

"(Y/n)," your heart flutters, as this is the first time he's said your name in your presence. "Please."

You shake your head. "I'm coming. I don't care if its dangerous, or if I'll see something traumatic. I don't care that I'm human. I'm coming." Connor, sensing that you've won, huffs indignantly.

"Fine. But you need to follow my instructions."

You roll your eyes, but you think that's the best you're gonna do. Even though you have no intention of following any unacceptable instructions, you say, "Aye, sir."

The way into Jericho was easier than you'd first assumed. You were right about the jumping and climbing, but it wasn't anything you couldn't handle. Actually, Connor seems almost impressed with your ease.

The two of you blend in surprisingly well. Before you entered the door, you smeared your exposed skin with patches of dirt. Connor didn't need as much, he looks rugged as is.

The two of you spend a while looking around the crowded area, taking note of bombs and exits. As Connor leads you to a stairway, an android with half a skull stops him. This android would have been most interesting for you to look at had you not seen the woman from the highway.

She is without the child and you get a bad feeling for a moment, but soon enough she is returning to a small figure and an exceptionally large male. You have an urge to go talk to them, but Connor has finished talking to the abnormal android and is pulling you up the stairs.

Your heart starts thumping in your chest. How are you going to convince him to spare Markus? You both were so close and Connor is so set on his mission...

Will you even be able to?

As these thoughts go through your mind Connor stops and you both hide as a woman stalks out of a doorway.

Your heart pounds so loudly in your ears that you do not hear Connor tell you to stay, nor his own leaving.

When you finally snap out of whatever reverie you were in, Connor is inside pointing a gun at Markus. Markus has his hands up and looks to be calmly speaking to Connor.

You run through the doorway.

"Connor-"

"I told you to wait outside, Detective." His voice sends a chill down your spine, it is so full of coldness and displeasure that you recoil for a second.

You sigh, hoping that this isn't the wrong choice. "I know Connor. I just... want you to make the right decision." His eyes don't find you. Markus spares you a quick glance before he goes on with his deviancy speech. You don't listen, Connor's tone still ringing in your mind.

Without your noticing, Connor glances to you. He wonders if he did something wrong, considering your hurt expression. Markus has walked closer to Connor, and his words are penetrating his mind.

Connor stops responding to Markus as he listens intently. Thoughts of you swim around the back of his mind, and he doesn't want to see your expression if he kills Markus. What Markus says.. Makes sense. Connor doesn't want to destroy this cause.

He doesn't.

Connor's gun lowers.

"They're going to attack Jericho," Connor states as your heart drops into your stomach.

"What?"

"We have to get outta here."

"Shit," you and Markus whisper at the same time.

With that the three of you take off, running as fast as you can to warn the others.

The journey is a blur. You're still in shock from the events that just transpired. You hear gunshots coming from all sides. Androids seeing their last, soldiers killing mercilessly.

As you run, a woman appears from one of the adjoining corridors.

"They're coming from all sides! Our people are trapped in the hold, they're gonna be slaughtered!" Markus puts a two fingers to his head. Connor and the woman both look around like they hear something unbeknownst to you.

"We have to blow up Jericho," Markus says firmly. Your eyes widen slightly, but if it's the only option.. "If the ship goes down, they'll evacuate and our people can escape."

"You'll never make it!" The woman has real pain in her voice. One look at Connor tells you that he's doing his best to think of every outcome possible. The three androids don't acknowledge you, but this might be best for now. Especially if they think you are an android.

Humans are so fragile when it comes to situations like this. One gunshot could leave you helpless, but this doesn't scare you.

Connor is deviant. The both of you are helping androids. There is no time to be fearful.

Yet another amazing time to be zoned out. The woman, North, is calling Markus' name as he runs in the opposite direction. Then, Connor is motioning for you to follow.

The gunshots and screams of androids is enough to overwhelm you, so you run toward the sounds.

"(Y/n)-" Nothing, not even Connor's voice can stop you from at least trying. You have to save them. You have to try.

You're sure at least some of the soldiers recognize you when you turn the corner, as the gunfire ceases for a brief moment. Good ol' (Y/n), always getting herself into sticky situations.

You take the brief moment of shock, of doubt, to your advantage. The soldier's unfair advantage is their armor, but you know the weak spots. Stealing the closest attack rifle, you bash each human in turn right where the exposed neck is.

It shouldn't kill, but it sure as hell would hurt. Each soldier falls with a grunt, and you kick the weapons out of reach. Androids look at you in awe as you motion for them to flee. As you turn to scan for more androids in need of help, you see Connor standing stalk-still. He is staring at you, opened mouthed, looking like he was running to your rescue.

Then seeing that you didn't need it.

"Close your mouth." He does so, taking a few steps closer. He looks like he wants to say something, but you hold a hand up. "Not yet. We need to get out of here."

You take his hand. It is warm, comforting. You look up for a moment, keeping this moment for yourself. What a beautiful mess this is.

With a slight squeeze of the hand, the two of you are off running again.
