Maedhros groaned as he flung a textbook across his bed. It seemed that there was no way he could be spared the horror of a morning quiz. His professor, Azaghal, was a gruff, yet kind, teacher and he loved Literature with a passion that none could escape.

Pulling himself up, he grabbed a loose hair tie and swept his red hair into a loose ponytail that hung past the nape of his neck. He could hear footsteps climbing the stairs and judging by the impatient clumps, it was probably Tyelko who always got up early to hit the gym and 'get the gains' as he liked to brag.

The door swung open and Tyelko, well, his real name was Celegorm but his mother's affectionate name had stuck, barged in.

"Holy shit, Nelyo. I didn't see anything in the news about a hurricane passing through here."Maedhros stuck him with a long suffering look, and swiped four pens into his leather bag.

"Get out of my way, I need to be there early."

Tyelko ran after him, "You don't enjoy my company?"

Maedhros sighed, "Barely," he ignored Tyelko's whines of mock hurt, and continued, "Azaghal's given us a test this morning and I can gain extra credit from it."

"Whatever. There's food downstair, hurry up." Tyelko sped down, his blonde hair loose and flying behind him.

Most of his family was already down there, Kano was on a sofa, scarfing down a bowl of cereal and skimming through a book. Curvo sat at the table in discussion with Moryo who was scowling as Amrod tried to pick pieces of tomatos and fling them at him.

"Boys! Don't play with your food!"

There was his mother, Nerdanel, her red hair, like his own, tightly wound up in a bun as she balanced a glass of juice and a plate of pancakes in one hand and some forks and knives in the other.

"Here, I'll help," he offered to take the pancakes and placed them on the wooden table.

"Thank you, Nelyo." He noticed that there were dark circle's under his mother's eyes and some plaster dried on her cheek. She must have been working late.

"Where's father?"

Nerdanel waved her hand out the back, "He's been up since dawn, working."

Typical. He swiped two pancakes and a glass of juice and chugged it down as he walked to the kitchen. Grabbing a sandwich, he dutifully kissed his mother on the head, "I'll be back by one, I finish early today."

His mother returned the smile, "That's great, see you."

He was almost out the door when he heard Kano. "Mae!!"

"Yes?!" He shouted up the stairs.

He looked up to see Kano running down the stairs with his guitar case. "I need a lift."

He struck Kano with a poker face, "Fine. Get in the car."

His younger brother studied music at Tirion Uni and it was pretty easy to say he was quite talented at it. The problem was that one could always find sheet music littering the house, exactly where it was not meant to be, like the fridge or the bathroom.
