Rachel's POV
The rest of the day passed by as usual and through it all, I kept thinking of solutions to several complications. The first and not so troublesome complication was what I should wear. Like I said before, my closet doesn't contain anything decent enough to wear. Also, I didn't have enough time nor money to go to the mall and buy a new dress. I usually don't care what I wear but for some reason, I felt that I had to wear something nice.

It was mainly because of the fact that I had to convince Garfield's family that I really was his girlfriend and I was pretty sure that he told them a lot of stories about his now ex-girlfriend, so I kind of had to live up to that image. Although I was pretty sure that that was the reason, I couldn't help but listen to the voice at the back of my head saying that I wanted to look pretty for Gar. I would never admit to that though.

While watching our English teacher move her mouth, an idea popped inside my head. I remembered that before my mother died, she had a beautiful dress. I remember that I always loved it when I was a child and wanted to wear it when I grew up. Maybe it's still in mom's closet and my father didn't get rid of it, I thought. I held onto that hope and proceeded to think of the other bigger problem, the more dangerous one. My father.

The school day was over and I still had no idea how to get out of the house unnoticed. When I arrived home, I went straight to my mother's bedroom and searched her closet. Fortunately, I found the dress and it looked exactly like it did all these years ago. It was a long sleeved lacy blue dress that stopped at the knees. After I put the dress in my room, I started cooking lunch for he usually came back around five and it was now four o'clock. As to how I'll get out of the house, I knew better than to ask him. I settled for sneaking out of my bedroom window after he ate lunch. I decided that I would deal with the consequences later as that was the only escape plan I had in mind.

Once I finished cooking lunch, I heard the front door open. He came strutting through the kitchen and I noticed that he wasn't drunk....yet. I put the food on the dining table and I sat in silence while he ate. That's how it usually was. He would come back from wherever the hell he goes to in the morning—which isn't his job because he's unemployed—I would prepare his food for him and simply sit there until he finishes eating. I wasn't allowed to eat with him. He was always silent when he was sober. He scarcely ate dinner because he was too drunk to eat.

After he was done, I did the dishes and disappeared to my room. It was time to escape. I got ready then opened my window and disappeared into the night. I took the bus to the restaurant and when I arrived there, it was one of those fancy restaurants. Luckily, I arrived on time and wasn't late. I entered the restaurant and was immediately faced with Garfield. He had his jaw slightly open while he not-so-discreetly checked me out and I could swear that I saw a bit of drool falling out of his mouth.

I snapped my fingers in front of his face and he seemed to snap out of his daze. "Oh, h-hi Rae. Yo-you look...beautiful." He breathed the last word out.

I couldn't help but blush at his words. I had to admit that he looked good in semi-formal clothing too. "You don't look too bad yourself." I complimented back.

I saw his face brighten up then he led me towards their table. There was an older man and woman who I assumed were his adoptive parents, along with two other boys.

"Rachel, this is Steve Dayton and his wife, Rita, my adoptive parents. And, these are Cliff and Larry, my brothers. Fam, this is Rachel, my girlfriend." (A/N: I know that they're not his brothers but let's just pretend that they are)

I felt all giddy inside when he said I'm his girlfriend, and even though I knew that I wasn't, I couldn't help but wish for the opposite. "It's nice to meet you all." I gave them a small smile.

"It's nice to finally meet you, dear. Garfield has told us a lot about you." Said Rita.

"Oh, has he now?" I asked while looking at him. "Oh believe me, all he ever talks about is how you two bumped into each other the first time you met, or when he got you in detention, or how you look so beautiful while concentrating in class, or—" Said Cliff, annoyed at how much his brother talks about me and trying to embarrass Garfield.

"Okay, that's enough." Gar cut him off. I looked at him and his face was red with embarrassment.

I frowned. Wasn't he supposed to talk about his ex-girlfriend, whoever she was? Then, why did he tell them about how we first met or about things that we did? It was seriously confusing but I pushed all those thoughts to the back of my head and concentrated on the conversation going on. I'd ask him about it later.

The rest of the dinner went quite smoothly. Rita told me funny but cute stories about Garfield. He was beet red through it all. Mr.Dayton wasn't the most agreeable man but he was mostly fine. I mean, who am I to judge when I have a father like mine. Cliff liked teasing Gar....a lot, and Larry was a quiet person who didn't talk much. Gar was lucky to have this family. He deserved to be happy after all he had been through. 'I'm glad that I agreed to be his pretend girlfriend for the night.' I thought.

A/N: Hold your horses, that's not how this night will end. There's still a little scene coming in the next chapter. I'm really evil mwahahaha.
