"Mi-young?" a voice I hadn't heard in a long time said. I looked up from the pile of prescriptions on my desk.
"Oh my god, Jung Hoseok!" I said, standing up and walking out of the front desk area. We greeted each other with a small hug. "Haha, didn't expect to see my ex here," I said with a cheeky smile. Hoseok grinned.
"Yeah, my glasses are stupid, so I came for a new perscription," he said scratching his head. I nodded understandingly.
"Of course, I can help you,"
Jung Hoseok was one of the boys I had dated the year before. He was a kind man with a big heart and lots of energy, but he was clingy and near the end of our relationship, he told me that I was just a rebound from his past girlfriend. That had stung so much because I had really taken to him.
I shook thoughts of the past out of my head and took him over to the glasses department, to give him a quick, simple eye test, with the glasses he already owned.
"Okay, just read the letters in the third row for me," I told him. He kept reading until he reached the bottom of the test.
"Hoseok, your eyes are fine!" I said with a confused look. He had passed without getting a single letter wrong. His expression darkened and his eyes became fogged. "Hobi?" I said, calling him by his nickname. Slowly he made his way towards me. I reflexively moved backwards, not knowing what was happening.
"Song Mi-young," Hoseok said in a hushed tone. My face and neck were sweating profusely. What the heck was he doing?! Why is it that at this very moment there is conveniently no one around?!
Suddenly, my back hit a wall. I let out a small squeak as Hoseok put a hand on either side of my body. I squeezed my eyes as he leaned in. I could feel his hot breath on my neck.
"Mi-young, I realized. . ." Hoseok whsipered, coming closer, if that was even possible. "I realized that I love you," he said, without warning his lips were on mine. I didn't kiss back. I brought my hands to his pecs and pushed him hard.
"No!" I said, getting as far away from him as I could. "I'm working!" I said, he started walking over to me again, with a smirk on his face.
"So that means we can, get together, later?" he asked in a sensual way, I grimaced in disgust. He'd never acted like this for the 8 months we were together.
"No! I - I can't, I don't love you," I said. I turned and ran back to the front desk. My cheeks were flushed in embarrassment and my heart thumping with fear, disgrace and horror.
I watched carefully as Hoseok walked past the front desk, he was slouched over, his fists were clenched and his jaw muscles were tightened. He glanced at me before walking out the door. I finally let go of my breath.
"Mi-young?" I jumped at the sound of my co-worker, Namjoon. "You good?"
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine, sorry," I said, placing my hands on the desk. "That guy, that guy was just being a creepo," I said. Namjoon nodded.
"Oh," he said. Namjoon pulled his bangs over his eyes, he was nervous about something. "Mi-young, I - I was wondering, if maybe, you. . .nevermind it's stupid," he said turning back to his computer. I cocked my head to one side.
"What's up, Joon?" I asked him. I had started working here two years ago and Namjoon had been my first friend.
"Oh, it's just, I was thinking, maybe you, maybe you and I could, like I dunno, go out. . .?" he stammered, his voice getting higher as he ended the question. My face broke out into a smile.
"Haha, Joonie, I would love to go on a date with you!" I said, all memory of Hoseok gone. Namjoon's eyes widened as he looked at me.
"Really?!?" he exclaimed. I smiled wider and nodded. He grinned and his cheeks turned red.
I didn't really feel anything towards Namjoon except friendship but I didn't want to upset him, plus he was cute and maybe I could develop new feelings. That is, if this lasted more than two days.
He stood up, taking his bag with him. He walked out of the front desk to stand in front of me. "That's great! Tonight is fine?" he asked, his voice filled with excitement. I beamed at his admiration and gave him a thumbs up.
"Yep, sounds good!" I said. Namjoon exhaled.
"Oh man, I was sure you were gonna turn me down, man, oh man," he said, "I'll pick you up at 8!" he said. With that he started walking out of the building.
"Wait! Namjoon!" I called to him. He turned on his heels and walked straight back to his seat. I laughed.
"Yeah, I just realized we still have an hour of work left," he said sheepishly, his face going bright red again. I rubbed his shoulder and smirked.
"Don't worry, almost done," I said, realization that I was going on a date tonight hit me.
I felt light, like my heart was twinkling. I wonder where we're gonna go for dinner!
