"Mom, look at me." Yuko grabbed her soft, sagging arms as the elder was looking at the ceiling humming some foreign tune.

"Have you already taken your insulin today? Please try to remember for me, this is important." Yuko brushed her mother's spiderweb like hair behind her angled shoulders. "No I haven't dear, can you please help me?"

She bit her lip, having to trust her word as Yangucim struggled to hand her the clear and white mixed medicated pen holding liquid inside. "How do I..?" the woman laughed, then wheezed pulling up her pant leg. "Here." With urgency traced in her voice, she pointed to a specific spot on her thigh. Right before the thin, cold metallic needle was about to pierce Yangucim's skin Yuko asked once more-

"You're sure you didn't already take your shot for the day?"

"Yes dear, now hurry." "You know if you have already taken it an overdose can kill you, right mom?"

No response crossed her chapped, wrinkled white lips, only a soft hum as she looked out the window at the other houses in the neighborhood which also held elders similar to her.

She had to trust her mother's word.

That was a mistake.

Not getting enough, or too much of the treatment can kill. Yuko rolled the dice and inserted the pen into her upper thigh hesitantly.
