Christopher Maurice Brown

Los Angeles, California

Lunch; May 26th, 2018

Yesterday was the first whole day of my job, and it was interesting.

Everything ran smoothly as if Morgan was still in charge here. Morgan gave me a list of his old daily routines, and it was a breeze for me to accomplish. Z constantly bothered me with messages from other clients, complaints, updates, and informed me multiple times when a call was coming in for me. I never realized how much Z does as a receptionist.

My dream career of being a manager really came true. Others would have to wait years to be in my shoes.

"Hey shithead," Trevors enters my office and I smile.

"It's now Mr. Brown to you-"

"That's what I said." Trevor says. I roll my eyes and chuckle.

"What's up?"

"Want anything? I'm running to a few places for lunch...and if you sign this contr-"

"Nope. Over my dead body."

"For only 9.99 a week I'll-"

"Trev-"

"I got weed with yo name on it..." He mouths.

"Get outta here nigga!" I laugh and shoo my hands towards my door as he stomps the ground and dramatically sighs like a child, slamming it behind him.

Once he leaves, I glance down at my bottom drawer. Ugh. Here we go again. Thinking about her.

Millions of memories of us hit me hard yesterday, now today, and forever....

She's gotta get out of my fucking head.

How can I erase my childhood?

It's driving me crazy. From time to time, I replay the late intimate nights we shared, laughs we created, inside jokes we cherished, or simply being in each other's arms everyday in and after high school...it ain't fair.

It kills me internally that she still had the urge and guts to break up with me, chit-chat with me for the first few months before college started and bam; she began her own life in New York, without me.

I should of followed her...

I should of refused the breakup to happen...

I should of cried harder, louder, forced her to stay instead of letting her hop on the plane and say goodbye....

*knock knock*

"...come in." I wipe a sudden tear quickly as Z comes in with a bag of take-out food. I slowly grin at her excited expression on her face with our favorite food.

"Is it empty?" I smirk.

"Naw, not this time. I haven't been mad at you since....well, last week." Z winks.

"By the way, the rumors are back again." Z sighs as she pulls up a chair to my desk.

"What rumors?"

"That you and I are fucking around." Z grumbles.

"Man." I sigh. "Well, ima start firing their asses since I can now." I smirk. "Maybe I should have them fear me...hmm..."

"Mhm." She giggles.

"Bet." I laugh. "Trevor first."

"Nooo. Leave him alone. He loves us." Z smiles.
