"Oh her?" Yukka thinks aloud, "I got a long with her very well too."
Stoked to meet our new teammates the day after tomorrow the rest of the trip was not long at all! Before I knew it i was waking up 3 hours before we made landfall. The Doc called us into his office on the ship for a meeting.
"I called you all today to warn you about earth," He starts the conversation in a serious tone, "The earth is cruel and unrelenting. You may not believe me now but i've lost many friends down there. You youngersters have it drilled into your heads that the fight on earth is glorious and leads to honor and victory. While some of that may be true, there is no shortage of death on the surface of that nearly abandoned world!" He pauses, takes a drink and some medicine for something and then continues, "The other team, I believe, briefly mentioned the '7 minutes of death'. This is the first 7 minutes you enter a battlefield, it's when you are most likely to die. People who come back from even their first missions are considered veterans. This is the stuff they DON'T tell you at the academy."
"Why are you most likely to die in the first 7 minutes?" Kaname asks.
"Because the Omega can tell who they haven't seen before. We think this is because they are a hive mind, or they share a central brain, Either that or they have some sort of communication method that we can't detect at all," he finishes.
I shutter, So they know who to pick off so they have superior numbers, even though they don't even need that to win a fight...It's almost like they are strategizing,"So are the Omega from that ship that crashed on earth in 3003?" I ask, changing the subject.
"The ship that crashed on earth 4 years ago definitely had something to do with the omega. We aren't sure of they came from the ship or something else caused this. There just isn't enough data on the omega. No one can get a corpse to study because seconds after they die the flesh loses all of its DNA! We think this is a purge of some kind," That explains why that omega back on the moon was frozen solid! Because they had to keep it alive! Who would be so reckless as to leave the door open and let it thaw?! That could destroy the whole moon base! I think. I see the look on Yukka's face too, she's thinking the same thing.
"That's interesting, I wonder..." Kaname Stares off. Zero waves his hand in front of his face.
We all talk for a while. About lots of things, including Construct development, the omega's strengths and weaknesses, and people and jobs at the base. In the middle of talking about research done on the omega the ship's lights turn red, and the general's voice comes on the speaker, "Everyone prepare for landing and docking at Bayonet forward base!" the ship suddenly gets chaotic, "All construct pilots man your constructs and prepare to be dropped into an emergency combat zone!" His voice sounds grim.
Lieutenant Gemini peeks into the room we are in, "You heard him! Come on! Your Constructs are done being painted! They are loaded and ready for combat!" He pauses, "Pilot Vey, the special weapon you had ordered is already applied to your construct!"
She suddenly looks up, interested, "Did you hit all my specs that I asked for?
"Fortunately! But barely, nothing over your expectations," he responds, "Also! Your new teammates are shipping out to the drop zone now!" SO we are already being dropped into combat?!
We rush out after Gemini and jump into our constructs. Valkyrie turns on, "Your heart rate is up! Are we really being dropped into combat right now?"
"Saddle up, this is about to be the real deal!" I tell Valkyrie. I turn the radio to the general's channel, "This is Karl, we are all standing by for drop!"
"This is the general," He waits about 2 seconds, "You are a go for launch!"
The door under our constructs slowly open. The heavy magnets holding the constructs in place disengage. So that's what they are for.... I think while dropping.
