Mackenzie POV
I finished cleaning the mess all my friends made as I made my way to the front door as everyone was leaving. "Thanks for coming to my birthday!", I said I waved everyone goodbye. Today I finally turned double digits. I'm half an adult and I could not wait to be treated more mature. I closed the door as the last person walked out. I turned around to my parents smiling like crazy as they hide something behind them.
"Our little penguin, all grown up. I think I'm going to cry." I looked at my dad who's eyes got a little puffy. I smiled, feeling a little embarrassed. My mom rolled her eyes as she took out what she had behind her.
"I think it is time for you to have this. It is our family charm." she said as I looked at the charm bracelet as she passed it to me. As I looked at it there were a few charms on it. Each one different then the other. The bracelet itself seemed old but it looked in good condition.
"Your great grandmother owned this bracelet, and passed it down to your grandmother, who passed it down to me. Now I think it is time for me to passed it down to you." I smiled as I placed it on my wrist.
"When the time is right you will place your own charm. But you must choose wisely because it is one charm per women. Can't go around changing it as you please."
"Don't worry mom, I'll pick the perfect one." I hugged them both as I ran up the stairs.
*Few Years Later*
I can't believe i was stupid enough to think that i was good enough. I don't understand what I did wrong. Why did he do this to me. Now I'm in my room crying my eyes out and my mom's mascara all over my face. I heard a knock at the door. "Go away.....please." I said, you can hear the hurt in my voice. My door opened slowly as my mother stood there, with a heartbroken look across her face. She walked over to me,she didn't say a word. All she did was give me a tight hug, and honestly at that moment that is all I needed.
"Mack, did i ever tell you the legend behind that bracelet?" She said as she pulled apart and wiped off some mascara. I nodded 'no' as I stayed silent.
"Well your great grandmother one day lose that bracelet. She was devastated, she looked everywhere for it but she never found it. She eventually stop looking for it. One day, she meet a man and she fell deeply in love with him and his charm. One day, they were moving into their apartment when your great grandmother saw her lost bracelet at his home. The guy, your great grandfather said he found it one evening when he went to get some morning coffee." She said as i listened careful to the words she spoke.
"And that same thing happened to your grandmother with your grandfather. She lost the bracelet, fell in love with a man, that man was always the one who found the bracelet."
"Did that happen to you and dad?" She smiled as she looked into space, thinking about those moments. "Yes, it did."
"So that is our family Legacy?"
"Yes. Our family legacy states that when we lose that bracelet our one true love will find it and-"
"What if the one who we love hasn't found the bracelet?" I cut her off.
"Then he isn't the one for you. But that legacy will start soon after you put your own charm on it." I looked between my mom and the bracelet.
"I haven't put my charm on it, that means that Chase wasn't for me." I said as i felted a little better about the whole break up thing.
"No, he wasn't so wait for your real true love. And don't waste your tears on any guy. And don't waste my mascara either, by the way you are not allow to wear makeup till you are at least 16. I don't want my little penguin growing up too fast." I smiled as I hugged my mom, as I glanced at the bracelet.
Family Legend huh.
