It was the day you were dreading for the last three weeks. Shawn had to fly back home and go back with his family. He had visited to spend more time with you in December until he had to go home for Christmas.

You stood in front of Shawn, your eyes glued to your boots. Another gust of freezing air blew in through the airport doors. You felt his cold hands grab yours and pull them towards his chest. You kept your eyes glued to your knee length military coat. Under your coat you had on a black skirt with black tights under, and a navy long sleeve shirt. Your hair fell in ringlet curls, snow still stuck to them from walking outside.

Shawn lightly ran his fingers through your hair and tipped your chin up.

"I already miss you baby girl. Just keep your head up for the next couple weeks and I'll be back to see you again. Don't let the world get you down, it's just a matter of time before your back safe in my arms again." He said as his arms pulled you against him.

"Please don't go," you said at a barely audible whisper. "I don't want you to leave."

"I don't want to leave either, but I have to. My family wants to see me. I wish you could come with me. Oh! That reminds me," he pulled out a small box, "open this when you get home."

He slid the box into your coat pocket and lifted you up slightly. You wrapped your arms around his neck and breathed in his cologne, the scent strengthened by the cold weather. He kept his arms tight around your back and he kissed your cheek.

You slightly let go of his neck so that you were able to kiss him, one last time before he left you at home. You pressed your lips to his, and they fit together like puzzle pieces. He set you down and looked at you. The tears rolling down your cheeks couldn't be concealed. You put your hands over your face and weeped.

"Hey, hey, hey, shhhh. I'm right here, I'm here, love." Shawn said as he pulled your hands away from your face. He wiped away the tears and you saw a few tears come out of his eyes as well. Your head snapped up as a voice came over the intercom.

"Flight 4358 to Toronto International Airport is now boarding."

He straightened up and let go of your hands. Shawn pressed one more kiss to your lips.

"Goodbye, baby girl. I'll see you soon, I promise."

"I love you Shawn. Goodbye."

"I love you too, don't you ever forget that." He said as he wheeled his suitcase behind him. He went through security and you watched, never letting your eyes leave his tall figure. Once he was through security, he got blurry and you waved, letting the tears fall freely no. You saw him wave back and he boarded the train that went between concourses.

You turned away and saw two women looking at you.

"It won't get easier darling. That boy loves you though, so take care of him. Our husbands have been in the military for years and we still get emotional when they leave." The shorter women said to you with a sweet smile.

You smiled back, "Thank you, and thank your husbands for their service."

You waved a small wave and you walked to a small hallway, where you collapsed on the floor in tears. The box fell out of your pocket and you picked it up.

The ribbon slipped off with ease and you lifted off the lid. Inside, there was a piece of paper, a little book, and a necklace. You lifted up the necklace to see an airplane and a guitar charm strung on the thin silver chain. You squeezed it in your hand and lifted the book.

United States of America Passport was written in gold writing across the blue leather front. You quickly lifted the piece of paper and looked at it. It was a first class ticket from Cincinnati to Toronto, leaving tomorrow. You laughed out of joy and ran out the doors of the airport. In less than 24 hours, you would see Shawn again. And you got to spend Christmas with his family.
