i was feeling nosey and i wanted to ask y'all an unnecessary question
if you remember, what was your first anime? or which anime got you into watching anime?
for me, the first anime i watched was Death Note
to this day i still fucking adore Death Note, and im planning to rewatch it again soon. i don't remember why?? i watched Death Note?? i dont recall autumn ever recommending it to me and i was never really interested in anime but i watched it and that's all that matters
i watched Death Note in 4th or 5th grade and at that time it wasn't much to me but i nonetheless loved it, i also skipped episodes two and three for?? some reason?? but now rewatching it three or four years later i actually understand shit and i see there's so much more to love about the series once i understand it clearly. my god. Death Note is such an amazing anime.
but really it wasn't what got me into watching anime

it was Black Butler
Autumn kept bugging and bugging me to watch Black Butler because it was her favorite thing back in 5th grade, and once i gave in i just,, i understand why she loved it so much

dont get me wrong
by no means is Black Butler a perfect series
in fact i have a ton i want to criticize about it
but back then i was just so invested in the concept of a demon butler with his twelve year old brat of master, filled unnecessarily edgy exposition scenes that come out of nowhere (looking at you episode four) and gay subtext (please do not misunderstand this as me shipping sebaciel, you do you but sebaciel has always just disgusted me to no end, sorry)
there's something about Black Butler that kept me reeled in and keeps me interested to this day
i love the characters, the story itself (with some exceptions *cough cough* second half of season one and the ending of season two *couGh*), the cool, fluid animation (but oh god the last few episodes of season one were painfully stiff and i still gag thinking about it), just,, everything is so appealing to me.
overall i think i just really loved Black Butler and wanted to see more of that genre/media, which led me to this unhealthy obsession that i have today. thanks Autumn, but no thanks, for getting me into Black Butler and Hetalia and getting me obsessed with this shitshow. ✌
