It started with a dream

Elizabeth was running down the corridor for the fourth time that week, the walls closed in on her, constraining her movements like a python on prey. The peeling, checkered wallpaper scraped against her nightgown creating the irritating sensation of being pinched. The shadow pursued her, calling her name in a fragmented, toneless voice that bore deep into her ears like an insect. The shadow passed through her screaming in a long unbroken note that echoed through her mind, leaving a violet haze to cloud her eyes. The walls collapsed completely and Elizabeth awoke shaking and coated in a clammy sweat that made her nightgown cling to her skin. She took five minutes to calm herself and looked at the clock which read 11:40 before she heard the voice from her dream...
" T̸w̶e̴n̵t̵y̸ ̵m̶i̷n̷u̷t̴e̵s̵.̴.̷.̵H̶U̴R̸R̶Y̵"
The shadow warned from nowhere yet everywhere at once. Elizabeth let out a highly undignified shriek and retreated under the blankets. Her brother, Travis rushed into the room his silver hair messed up to stick on end, making his ears blend in. He ran to his sisters side with bleary yet concerned look.
"I heard a scream is everything alright?"
Elizabeth's eyes were wide with fear, her heart felt like dead weight in her chest as her brother tried unsuccessfully to calm her down.
"Something is coming..."
Elizabeth murmured in a frightened whisper.
She twirled her long raven locks in between her pale clammy hands, her dark floppy ears pressed flat against her hair in fear. Travis looked down on his younger sister with his blue and red eyes, he may of only been seventeen at the time but he still felt a fierce urge to protect his sister. The sound of glass breaking reverberated throughout the mansion Setting the siblings on edge. Travis held is sisters hand as they plodded along the corridor toward their parents room...
This scenario reminded Elizabeth horribly of her dream
And the creaking of the floorboards sent shivers up her spine. She touched the scar across her left eye to reassure herself and started to repeat the calming checklist technique she had been taught a few months earlier when her dreams had begun to become out of hand...
1. My name is Elizabeth Lacuna Nanashi
2. My parents are Ophelia and Alex Nanashi
3. My brother is Travis Shibui Nanashi
4. I am a hybrid of a cat and dog Oblitus
5. I don't expect to live through this night
The last dot point was more of an after thought for her because until tonight she didn't realise she had been dreading this day for months, yesterday she had a sickening feeling in her stomach that she simply couldn't shake and she had to make many stops in her lessons to rush to a basin to empty her body of everything her mouth could project. Earlier that night she had refused dinner and gone straight to bed were she simply stared at her ceiling, wanting sleep but fearing the terrors of her dream.
Travis clung tightly to his sisters hand and knocked once  shakily on the oak door that separated him from his parents room.
...
There was no answer. He knocked once more and called out their names.
...
again no answer. Travis opened the door slowly and stood still with shock at the sight in front of them.
The mangled bodies of his parents lay strewn across the room, their blood splattered on the checkered wallpaper in a gruesome display. Elizabeth's eyes were diluted in fear and brimming with tears, barely hearing her brothers scream as he dropped her hand and ran to their parents side. She slowly dragged herself over to her  grieving brothers side and hugged him from behind burying her head in his soft blue hoodie to hide her tears. They sat like that for a moment longer when she looked up once more. The large clock which hung directly over her parents bed read that it had just passed midnight.
Midnight.......
The two children started to black out and leaned on each other for support. People were shrieking unintelligible nothings around them and colours started to blur in their vision. They drifted off to the sound of sirens blaring and salty tears drying on their young faces as marks of what they had seen that night.
