Stay Alive... (Pt. 2) {Laurens x Nurse! Reader}

Start from the beginning

As I got even closer, I saw the confidence in John's posture.

Two...

I guess he really was ready for the duel. I sure as hell wasn't.

Three...

Lee was certainly nervous. I could tell as I approached.

Four...

That's when I noticed.

Five...

Lee was going to turn around early. I felt myself pick up the pace and then some.

Six...

Lee was turning around. I was yards away from them now.

Seven...

"NO!" I screamed. Alex and Burr looked at me and shock and panic. But by the look in Alex's eyes, he knew what I was doing. Alex started to try and chase me and Burr ran to Lee as fast as he could. It was no use anyways.

Eig--

I ran in front of John right as Lee turned around fully and fired his gun. That's when John turned around too... I saw the look of immediate shock and fear on his face and his widened hazel eyes before looking down. A searing pain shot through my body, and seeing a growing red spot on my now ruined dress didn't help either. I stumbled back, glad that John was there to catch me and lay me down on the grass. I heard Burr yelling at Lee, and Alex yelling my name. I found myself fighting to stay awake and tried to ignore the burning pain that was only getting worse...

John's POV

It happened so quickly. First thing is Alex running behind me with wide, scared eyes, and then (Y/N) is stumbling into my arms after taking a bullet meant for me. I laid her on the grass as quickly and carefully as possible, tears already streaming down my face. The first thing that managed to leave my lips was "Why?"

(Y/N) gave me a weak smile before faintly saying, "Why not? I-I know you would've did it for m-me..."

I shook my head and pulled her onto my lap, ignoring the blood. "Yeah... but this could kill you, (N/N)! I... I can't live without you... you know..."

I watched the doctor making his way over quickly.

-- sad ending --

"D-don't worry, (N/N), you'll be f-fine." I said, running a hand through her (H/C) hair.

She shook her head softly, grabbing my hand that was previously running through her hair. She intertwined our fingers and let our hands rest on a spot away from her wound. She looked up at me, her (E/C) eyes sparkling with tears and fighting to stay awake, and a sad smile crossed her face. "Don't worry a-about me, J-Johnny. I don't r-regret a thing."

The doctor approached us but (Y/N) waved him off slowly. "I w-won't make it a-anyways." she whispered, looking at me. I let out a string of curses but it only made her laugh softly, and even though we both knew she was running of time, I couldn't help but smile sadly.

(Y/N) brought the hand that wasn't holding mine up to my cheek, and smiled softly at me. "You b-better live o-or I swear to God y-you're in trouble w-when I see you a-again." I couldn't help but laugh at that, and leaned slightly into her touch.

Finally, she looked at me again, before her eyes closed and she whispered one last thing to me...

"I love you, John. I'll see you on the other side."

I felt as her hand left my cheek and her grip on my other hand lightened. She looked pale, yet utterly peaceful. Sob after sob racked my body as I held her to my chest, wishing I knew how to say goodbye.

-- sorry this is taking so long... happy ending time! ;w;) --

I pet her hair. "You'll be okay, (N/N)... you'll be okay." She smiled softly, but didn't say anything. I could tell she was trying to not fall asleep. "Stay awake... you can do it," I whispered.

After a minute, I reluctantly let the doctor take her. "Stay alive... for everyone... for me..."

Alex knelt down next to me, putting a hand on my shoulder reassuringly. "She'll be fine, John. She's a strong woman." I smiled. "Thanks Lex."

~ back at camp ~

We weren't allowed in the medical tent no matter how hard we tried. Lex wasn't taking that part well, constantly yelling about how his best friend was in there. Eventually, I got Alex to calm down, and after a few minutes, a nurse poked her head through the flap of the tent. "You boys can see her now, but one at a time please." Alex looked at me thoughtfully and grinned. "Go see her, Johnny boy."

I saw (Y/N) laying on a cot, eyes closed. There was bandages wrapped around her stomach. The nurse who let me in said how lucky (Y/N) was to survive. She really was a fighter.

I sat down on a chair next to the cot, silently grabbing her hand and intertwining our fingers. With that gesture, her eyes fluttered open slowly. She saw me and smiled, before she said, "You don't have to live without me." I laughed and smiled, a huge wave of relief and happiness crashing over me. I let go of her hand, only to bring it up and place a kiss on it. She giggled, and a small blush coated her cheeks. (Y/N) intertwined our fingers again and we were there in a peaceful silence. I was just glad she could keep living.

She really was the light of my life.
