Regulus Arcturus Black, that's me. My older brother just finished his first week of Hogwarts. Then, that night is when my parents received an unexpected letter.
Dear family,
My first week at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry has been wicked! I have met three boys in my year who have, as well as myself, been placed in Gryffindor. I know you may not like that so if you have any grudge take it up with the sorting hat. A willow tree has been planted by the school this year, and it can move! As you probably well know by now I have already been in detention four times. Let me just say James Potter is trouble. But I guess that's why I like him. My other pals are Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. We have big plans and call ourselves the Marauders. Remus seems to be getting sick, although James and I team up in every class and are now top of our year. Except in potions, Snivellus beats us in that. I can't wait till the first Quidditch match. I know first years are not allowed on the team but James doesn't really seem to care. He smuggled his very own broomstick in, a cleansweep three! I wish I got a broomstick for my birthday. (hint hint) Anyways, all is well, besides detention with Professor Slughorn. But it doesn't matter, James will be there too.
Sincerely, your awesome son or brother, Sirius.
My mother yelled about him for months. My father ripped up the letter, threw it in the fire and would keep telling me I would get in Slytherin and not befriend the 'wrong sort'. The pressure was on. When summer came no one seemed to be capable of saying a full sentence to Sirius, not even Kreacher our house elf. After awhile I noticed that every time midnight strolled around my brother would lock himself in his room and not open it until the next morning. My parents wouldn't complain, they loved not having him around. But I saw beyond his lies. One night I put my plan into action. I was gonna find out what exactly these 'big plans' and the 'Marauders' that were mentioned in Sirius' letter were all about.

I tiptoed out of my room, with no wand I had to use a lantern for light instead. I glanced down the stairs. My father was reading the Daily Prophet and was informing my mother about you-know-who. But what did I have to fear, I was pure-blood. It was people like mudbloods and those blood-traitors that should be scared. I had previously stole my mother's hair clip to pick at the lock in Sirius' door. I snuck across the hall. The portrait of my mother was snoring loudly. I silently unlocked my brother's room. Creaking the door open just a crack, I peared inside. Sirius was reading a book. Yes, a book. I felt so stupid. I was about to leave thinking I had been wrong about my brother when pattering sound came from in the room. Three owls were waiting by the window with three thick letters tied to each of their feet. Each bird was very different from the other. The first was a tawny brown and had big ear feathers sticking out of its head. The second was a small barn owl that was already nibbling on the string which was tied around it's foot. The last was a bold snowy white with large yellow eyes. Sirius opened the window and let the owls fly in. he then read through all the letters. He laughed out loud quietly, muttered words under his breath I didn't catch, and rolled his eyes as he read. I watched him, fascinated. Would I meet friends as loyal as Sirius'? Would they send letters over the summer? I watched for at least an hour as Sirius wrote long replies to each of his friends. On one of the letters he paused, read another chapter of his unfinished thick book, and then continued, clearly adding information. He then carefully tied each letter onto the patient owls. This was the first time I looked in his room since he came back from Hogwarts. I cringed at the idea of my mother seeing what I saw. The walls were covered in Gryffindor banners and his bed sheets were now red and gold. He had put up a picture of him and his three new friends who were also known as the Marauders were arm in arm, smiling and goofing off within the frame. I grinned at the thought of having my own friends. In one year time I would have my very own picture just like that. In one year time I would have my own Marauders.
