Start from the beginning

It was unnerving.

The gentle sound of his breathing was making you nervous, especially because you could no longer hear your own. Instead of trying to approach him, you snuck up on him from the side, as jumping from the back is too obvious.

He started to turn around, and that's when you grabbed him and pinned his arms to his side. His mouth was already glowing and growing larger, so using as much force as you could, you turned his entire body to the side to stop him from aiming at you. He was shaking violently again, causing you to panic even more.

The same beam shot out from your dream, aiming at the same spot you would have been earlier if you hadn't moved. Instead, it hit a lamp, lighting it up immediately, a few irregular flickers here and there. The new energy that landed on the lamp flowed through the cords and into the rest of the house, turning on the rest of lights.

You didn't pay attention to that though, you were too busy trying to stop your brother's shaking.

---

The next morning, your brother greeted you with a lazy smile and asked you if there were any cornflakes left. "Top cupboard left corner," you murmured, almost automatically. He nodded and went to grab the milk. It was if someone winded you up and coded you to say certain phrases. You got no sleep the night before and you were kind of alarmed at the fact that B/N didn't seem to recall anything.

A ding! marked the sound of the toaster. "Oh, the electricity's back on?" He asked and he went inside the pantry to retrieve the slightly burnt toast. "Hm." You replied, staring dead ahead.  This time, B/N sighed and walked over to you, tossing a piece of bread on your empty plate.

"Okay, did something happen? You've been acting really depresso and it's a little bit annoying." That really seemed to get on your nerves. You whipped around, "Well, clearly someone has been paying attention. Sorry my negative feelings have been getting in the way of your day." You snapped. With a huff, you got up and left the room.

Why were you so mad? Probably because he wouldn't be having seizures every night if he had listened to you warn him about the portal. In fact, you've been quite irritable around him even before the incident, not counting when he was in actual danger.

You got dressed into something comfy and yelled at B/N to go outside. You were going to speak to him only if necessary. His annoyed face appeared from around the corner and said, "What? What do you want?" He glanced over at the cart, which was right next to you.

"Get in. We're going to the Mystery Shack."

---

A few minutes of driving later, you arrived and parked right outside. You could see that on the other side of the small building, Stan - the Mystery Shacks' owner - was giving a tour to some clueless tourists. Your brother slowly trudged behind you and you made your way to the door. Just as you were about to open it, someone else from the inside was already in the middle of doing so.

Dipper, not looking up from his book, walked straight into your shoulder. He jumped, stepped back and went slightly red from where he bumped into.

"Hey! Sorry, I know it's been three days but I finally returned the cart." You grinned slightly and pointed to it a few metres behind you. "Uh, yeah. Thanks."

He seemed a little bit upset. Slightly concerned, you asked him, "Dipper, you okay?"

"Erm, kind of. Just worried."

You started to speak but halted, to collect your thoughts. "I don't mean to pry but you wanna tell me?" Dipper looked at you, feeling strangely relieved. He glanced behind you, pulling you inside when he deemed the coast clear and gestured to your brother to come in as well, before closing the door.

Dipper coughed quietly and moved his head towards the couch putting a finger to his lips. "Shhh." Mabel was lying there, sleeping peacefully. When your brother caught a glance of her, his face flushed, but not enough to be noticeable. You, however, were able to see it, a bit like an aura. You raised an eyebrow at him and he looked at the ground shamefully. Dipper went upstairs to his shared room and motioned for you two to follow him.

When the 3 of you reached there, he started, "Look, I've just been a little bit worried because the power went out for 3 days. I know it sounds like I'm being paranoid, but, within those 3 days, there have been people reporting waking up with large scratches on their arms and chest."

You felt a tug in your heart and your stomach dropped. You already had an idea on why.

"And what do you think?" You asked carefully. "Me? I think that it goes beyond that."

Your brother shot you a glance, almost as if to say, SHUT UP.

"And I'm sure you know by now that Gravity Falls is weird. But I don't know, I think it's something different this time. And you... Y/N, you just show up in the midst of this. With powers, even! I have a really bad feeling." Dipper rambled. "N-not, that you showing up is a bad thing. Maybe it's a coincidence- it's just a bit suspicious."

You straightened your lips, and put your hands on your hips.

Not having anything else to say, the room turned silent. "So! Dipper! I don't think now is the best time to discuss this. Why don't you show us around the place? Anything somewhat exciting?" You said suddenly, desperately trying to change the subject. Dipper squinted his eyes at you, more suspicion embedded in them. You stared directly back, with no falter. You didn't blink, you just looked at his eyes, burning into him.

A small voice sang inside your head, in hopes that he would forget about it 'Please don't bring this up again.' Dipper's hard look softened and he blinked in a daze. "Sure, come on." He got up and walked out of the room. Before you could say anything, B/N gave you a startled look and mouthed something.

You weren't listening, you were just thinking about what you did. Did it work? Or was it just inside your head? You shook it off - knowing that you shouldn't - and followed Dipper into a new room. It was a dirty ivory colour, the paint chipping off in the corners. A large machine that looked like a broken photocopier sat on the side of the wall. Maybe because it really was a broken photocopier.

"Oh, I've been in this room before." Your brother glanced around.

You snapped your head around, "You have?"

Dipper nodded. "B/N wanted to buy one of our 'souvenirs', but there were no more so we came up here to get the extras."

The room gave off a weird aura. It was somewhat uncomfortable, but you could tell it was coming from something large.

You looked at Dipper, and walked towards the photocopier. "There's something off about this," You muttered, placing your hands on top of it. "I can feel it."

Dipper suddenly seemed very interested. "What, why?"

You shrugged, "I know there's something meant to be here, but there's a detail that's missing. I can't place my finger on it."

Dipper stared at you curiously, "It hasn't worked for almost a year or two now." He pats the photocopier and pulls a face of disgust when dust flies off of it.

That's when something clicked.

"You're not telling me something." You frowned, raised your eyebrows and turned to your brother. "B/N, when did you start staying here in Gravity Falls?"

"Almost 2 years now." He was slightly confused at what you were trying to get at.

"And you can absorb powers from objects, correct?"

"Yea- ohhhhh."

"Dipper. I know this isn't an ordinary photocopier. What does it really do?" You asked him.

"Well, it actually makes copies of living things. I had quite the experience with it a while back." Dipper laughed nervously and rubbedthe back of his neck.

Your eyes widened and you slowly grinned, turning to B/N. "You weren't born with cloning abilities. This is where you absorbed them from."
