Lonnie's Better Than You

Maya's P.O.V

"Meet at amphitheater @ 5" Was the text I received from Lonnie

I quickly turned over my wrist to look at my watch. 4:45. I had 15 minuets. Ha. Thanks math. I still hate you though.

I quickly got up out of my, oh so soft bed, and started to change into a pair of jeans, with a red t-shirt, and I threw a jean jacket over that.

Side note: polyvore shutdown recently so I can't create looks anymore, so you guys are going to have to get imaginative :/

I grabbed my shoulder bag and headed to meet Lonnie. These last couple of months me and Lonnie have become great friends. I mean, she could obviously never replace Mal or Evie, but it is cool to be close with someone who doesn't understand.

When I say that, I mean the Isle. I'm glad she didn't go through anything like that.

I checked my watch again as I sped walked through the courtyard. Somehow I always manage to run late.

"Shit" I muttered to myself as I saw Lonnie nervously waiting for me outside of the amphitheater

"Hey!" I call as I jogged the last few steps towards her "Sorry I'm late" I cringed a little

"Your fine" Lonnie laughed "Besides I told you 5, when It really starts at 5:15" She smirked

I gasped, but started laughing "You are one of the smartest people I've ever met, you know that?"

"I try" She flashed me a small smile as we headed inside

We walked in as we started to see the boys pair off to practice "Hey I'm gonna watch from the balcony, ok?" I said as I pointed towards the stairs

"Okay" She nodded her head "I'll see you after" She smiled  

I made my way up to the balcony and leaned over the railing, as I watched the guys warm up. My eyes drifted around the room until they landed on Carlos, I was surprised to find that he was already staring at me. I gave a wave, and a small smile, and he returned the gesture.

"Carlos, you're with me. Lets go" I heard Jay say

"Yeah" Carlos nodded his head as he tore his eyes off of me

"Assembler" Jay said to all the guys, as they all raised their swords at one another "Salute. Lower the point. Masks down." Like little robots every command Jay spoke, the guys followed "En garde!" He finally declared

Quickly all the guys broke out into a frenzy and started fighting. I watched each person, assessing their every move, not many of them were very good. Back on the Isle when everything was kill, or be killed you had to be good at sword fighting, or else you would be beheaded the old fashion way.

Then, in the midst of all the chaos, I saw Lonnie jump right in the middle and take on Jay. I smiled to myself.

"Come on Lonnie" I whispered under my breathe

I looked down at Carlos, as he had now been thrown out of the fight. He looked up at me with a curious look. I just shrugged and smiled, pretending not to know anything.

At one point, Lonnie stole Jay's sword and I couldn't help but get excited for her. She was kicking his ass.

Then at the end of the fight, which she had won, she took her helmet off revealing it was her, and I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. Whoo! Go Lonnie!

"Not bad" I heard Jay say

"You should put me on the team" Lonnie said handing Jay back his sword

"Hey w-what?!" Chad said. Ughhh. Chad. We don't like him incase your not caught up. "No, no, no, we'll be the laughing stock of the league! Then what? We'll have girls playing tourney?" Chad chuckled

"So?" Jay said

"So?" Chad repeated with distaste "So have you not read the rule book?! Section 2, paragraph 3, 11-4, 'a team will be comprised of a captain and 8 men'" He then took his stupid rulebook and showed it around to the rest of the amphitheater

"Yeah but you're down a man!" Lonnie protested

"Exactly, we're down a man" Chad jumped in

I swear to god I would've decked him if I was close enough

"I'm sorry Lonnie...coach trusted me, and I'm not gonna stay captain if I throw out the rulebook" Jay sighed running a hand through his long locks 

"If my mother thought that way, she would've lost the war" Lonnie said angrily, she then stomped off, as Chad celebrated from behind her

I put my head in my hands. Oh Lonnie. I'm so sorry.

"Alright guys practice is over lets go" Jay said, as him and the team walked off

I sighed and was about to turn around when I heard my name "Hey, May"

Carlos was already running up the stairs to meet me "Hey" I said turning around

"You came for Lonnie I'm guessing" He said as he slowed to a walk and approached me

"Would it hurt your feelings if I said yes?" I said, making a face

"You're cute" He said as he scrunched up his nose

"You're weird" I said as I laced my arms around his neck 

"Yeah but the good kind of weird, right?" He questioned as he rested his hands on my lower back

"Of course" I said as we started to inch closer

Just when we were centimeters apart Carlos whispered "I've gotta tell you something"

I looked up at him and there was fear in his eyes. Wait what? "Yeah sure what's up?" I asked concerned

"So I really really really like you" His voice cracked a little "Like, I like you a lot" He smiled

"Yeah okay, I think we covered that" I smiled and my heart skipped a beat

Was this it?

"So I've been meaning to tell yo-"

IM YOUR SUPER ANNOYING PHONE THAT HAS HORRIBLE TIMING

"I'm sorry" I said pulling back and reaching into my pocket

Evie's picture flashed onto my screen and my eyes went wide

"Oh shit! I'm supposed to meet Evie for a dress fitting!" I yelped 

"Hey it's fine" Carlos smiled at me "It can wait" 

"Are you sure, I feel bad" I said really truly feeling bad about the situation but also knowing I had to A) go find and talk to Lonnie, B) Go do a stupid dress fitting for Evie, and C) Worry non-stop over Carlos and whatever the hell is going on

"Hey" He said pulling me close to him again "I'm fine. We're fine. And I'll see you later" He finished by briefly pecking me on the lips

"Okay" I nodded my head

Then I sprinted running back to the dorm.

Evie is going to murder me.
