I stood by my locker waiting for the bell for the first period to ring. I was scrolling through my facebook page until I spotted Mia walking towards me. She smiled as she pulled her hot pink headphones from her ears.
"Morning, chica," she said.
"Morning, how'd you sleep?" I asked. She told me that she had been having nightmares about some huge claw ripping her apart while she was at the nail salon. Pretty exotic.
"Terrible. I had the same nightmare, only this time I was getting my hair done." she shivered. Must've been tragic for her since she loves going to getting her hair done for a billion dollars per trip.
"Wow," was all I could say.
The bell had rung and I hugged Mia goodbye. I started down the hallway, catching a glimpse of Logan as he walked past me. He glanced at me then back to the ground. I groaned knowing that I had to go to the library again today and spend an hour and a half reading from several books and memorizing facts. But, maybe I didn't have to. I smiled to myself, developing a plan to skipping this session. I was not about to be wasting every afternoon at the library with that geek.
I sat at my usual lunch table with Damien on my right babbling about some game months ago. I paid no attention and continued to push my salad around that plate. I didn't really feel like eating.
"T, do you know where Maria could be? I tried calling and texting her about practice today and she hasn't replied." Maria said sitting next to me. I didn't know she was talking to me until she waved her hand in front of my face.
"Hey, earth to Taylor, you okay?" she asked.
"Yep, just peachy." I sarcastically.
I looked over at Logan's table where he sat reading a book. I couldn't see the title but I could see how thick it was. It looked like he was almost finished with it.
"Hey, nerd," I hear Damien call out. He was talking to Logan.
Logan looked up from his book and rolled his eyes at Damien. He stood up and tried to walk away until Damien stepped in front of him and pushed him down. Mia was watching, too.
He took his book and walked over to the water fountain. He was going to ruin the whole book.
What I did next was a shock, especially to me.
"Stop!" I shouted. Every pair of eyes turned on me and I walked over and snatched the book from him. I glanced at Logan and handed him his book. His eyes widened as he gently took it. Everyone still had heir eyes on me.
I needed to leave.
I grabbed my bag and was exiting the cafeteria. Damien grabbed my wrist and turned me so I was facing him, I continued looking at the ground.
"What's your problem?" he asked, confused at my actions. Not more confused than me.
I stared into both of his hazel eyes. "Quit being a dick." I coldly responded. I yanked my arm away from his grasp and walked away.
My last class of the day and I was eager to get out of school. I didn't want to run into Logan and explain to him why I wasn't coming to the library. I looked around the hallway and saw no sign of him. I hastily stuffed my things into my bag and walked straight out the door, ignoring Mia calling after me. She was going to have to talk to me later.
When I get in the house, I immediately check the clock in the kitchen just to make sure I got home like I did if I had went to the tutor session. I had to wander off to the mall and the park to pass time by.
Mom wasn't in the kitchen or the living room, so I assumed she was upstairs in her bedroom. I quietly tiptoe up the steps, wincing at every creak my feet made. I saw that Kenzie's room door was ajar and peeked in before seeing that she was passed out on her bed bag. I hurried into my room and set my stuff on my nightstand.
Of course, Logan would know that I hadn't showed up, but would he really care? I bet he didn't even want to tutor me just as much as I didn't.
I lay down on my stomach on my bed and begin texting Mia. I told her how I managed to skip my tutor session and how I planned to do it for the rest of the week. I just had to avoid seeing Logan. He wasn't in any of my classes so that would make it a lot easier. I'll just have to find a way to avoid seeing him in the cafeteria.

As I was scrolling through Facebook, I hear a door open and footsteps heading towards the bathroom. I knew it was Mom, she hadn't seen me yet.
"Taylor?" I hear her call.
I cursed to myself quietly and responded. "Yeah, Mom."
Her footsteps become closer and my door slowly opens. "How was today's tutoring?" she asked.
"Good, I'm learning a lot." I lied. I knew that she was going to find out eventually when I ring home my report card.
"Well, I'm glad you're doing well. I may have to invite him to dinner to thank him for helping you."
I feel myself tense up as I hear the words spill from her mouth. That could be bad if she found out that I had lied to her. Maybe I should actually start going. That way it would make it seem like I wasn't lying in the first place.
I bite my bottom lip, hoping an excuse would pop up in my head. Before I could come up with a good one, she sighs. "Well, I'm going to go start on dinner. Your father wanted to have dinner with us."
I could sense that she was hesitant saying the words. I didn't want him here. But for my mother's sake, I smiled. "Great, can't wait to see him."
She smiled and walked out my room. I let out a dramatic sigh and flopped backwards onto my bed. A sound comes from my phone letting me know someone texted me. I open it up and find a text from Mia and one form Damien. I open Mia's first.
Hey did you skip? if you did then way to go! do you plan on skipping again, tomorrow?
I decided that I would reply to her's later and opened Damien's.
what was wrong with you today in the cafeteria? are you okay?
I think back to me in the cafeteria and getting Logan's book from him. I don't know why I did that. Maybe I just felt bad for him? I couldn't comprehend it myself.
I sit up from my bed and get ready to take a shower until I get another text. I open it to see it's from an unknown number.
look, its Logan. I know you skipped our session today. I waited fifteen minutes for you. Before you ask, I got your number from Mia. I just wanted to let you know that I'm not letting you skip another session, so be ready to come to the library after school. Got it?
I gripped my phone a bit too hard before throwing it on the bed. Who does this geek think he is? I could show this to my mom and tell her he was threatening me. I looked back at the text before saving the unknown number as Nerd Boy. I threw my phone back on the bed and turned towards the bathroom. If he thinks he can control me then he is sadly mistaken. No one controls Taylor Kae Stewarts.
No one.

Lunch was the same as every day, I had my usual salad but was craving a huge chocolate cake.
