I didn't have much time to grieve over my loss or lick my wounds because in a few hours we'd be having some big party for Della's big announcement. I couldn't avoid it because I live here. I'm also her sister. And even though we weren't close like we used to be, I still cared for her.
Maybe I should at least try to be on good terms with my sister. Out of all the family I had left, she was probably the only one who I could see getting close to. Well other than my cousin Keira.
I didn't like talking about my feelings. I've only been able to share my deepest emotions and thoughts with my mother and Liam.
And I had lost them both.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and rebuild our relationship. I know that it would require me to gush out some deep emotions I've been carrying around for a while now, which may not be a bad thing.
Maybe I'd feel better after telling Della why I resented her do much. Maybe I'd find the answers to some of the questions I've had for years. Maybe we'd be able to move forward.
It was three in the afternoon and she hasn't returned yet. The party didn't start until eight so I guess she still had plenty of time to get ready.
When I finally found the strength to get out of bed, I called Espen to come and help me prepare.
Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to hide the puffiness of my eyes and lips and the redness of my eyes and nose. But thankfully Espen didn't try to press me about it. After I told her I didn't feel like talking about it, she dropped the subject quickly.
She worked quickly and efficiently. I hadn't bought any new dresses as of late so she went back home and got one of her old dresses. It was a pretty purple one with thin straps and a puffy skirt.
She finished putting my hair up into an elegant updo, and just as she managed to get rid of the puffiness under my eyes and apply a minimal amount of foundation, my sister walked in.
She looked surprised. I couldn't blame her either, I didn't usually have company and it's been a while since she last saw me wearing any type of makeup.
"Hi Nira, hey Espen." She said gracefully. She walked towards the closet as we responded.
"Espen the party is almost about to start. Don't you have to get ready?" She asked.
Espen's face twisted in confusion and my expression wasn't much different. Espen hadn't been invited to the party, in fact I was pretty sure I was one of the only Omegas that were on the lost to attend.
"No, I didn't get an invitation."
Della's smile fades. "Oh gosh Espen I'm so sorry! You're free to stay and attend. There will be plenty of food and you can sit by my sister."
Espen gave my sister a polite smile before shaking her head. "I would love to but I've had a long day and I have an early shift tomorrow. I should be getting some rest."
"Oh okay. I'm really sorry about the whole invitation thing. I just got so excited and all of this is so last minute...I forgot about a lot of people."
"It's fine really."
I could tell my sister felt bad, she was a little red in the face. She grabs a garment bag from the closet and walks into the bathroom to prepare herself. Then Espen turns to finish up with my makeup.
"Thanks for doing this Espen. I know it was super last minute." I said as she applied the last bit of eyeliner.
"No worries. What are friends for?" She hugged me from behind and stepped back to admire her work in the reflection of my vanity mirror.
