H: I read once that these crawl spaces were invented to hide twenty students if ever there was an attack.
D: What does that mean for us?
H: Well since the crawl space is full the staircase will remain in place.
D: But someone will notice right? I mean a switching staircase that doesn't switch.
H: ...
D: Right?

D: Granger!
H: This staircase... it switches once a day. So people probably won't notice for a while. They probably won't notice until tomorrow after lunch.
D: So how long could we be trapped under here for?
H: At most three days. Dumbledore will mechanically shift the staircase once students start complaining.
D: Three days...
H: Yes Malfoy three days as in 72 hours or 4,320 minutes.
