The affenpinscher is also known as a "monkey dog". They come from Germany. They are in the toy group of dogs. They were used to control pests like rodents in businesses, houses and stables. As time went on they were then bred to serve as a companion. Affenpinscher looks similar to a Brussels griffon. It's body proportion are square. There ears can be cropped or left natural. There tail is curly and long and curves over their back. Their tail may be docked or not docked. Their coat is dense, short, rough and shaggy. It is not uncommon for an affenpinscher to walk on their back legs and sit on the base of there spine. Affenpinschers weigh 7 to 10 pounds. They are 9 to 11.5 inches. There breed temperament is alert, inquisitive, loyal, bold, courageous, stubborn and mischievous. They will react to provoking. They are not the most dog friendly and can be dog to dog aggressive. They will adapt well to city life. They are moderately active.  They are prone to eye issues, hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, leg-perthes disease, and patent ductus arteriosus. They have a lifespan of 11-14 years.
