Part 21

I’m so sorry wasn’t awake to send you there. Warm up your vocals before going on stage, alright? You have three performances for the night –it’s going to tax on your throat. Don’t worry, and don’t be nervous. If you’re afraid, just look for me in the audience seat. I’ll be supporting you with all my heart. You can do it, Lexi. I know you can.

Lexi checked her phone to find Dante’s sweet message, and couldn’t help but smile stupidly at it. She’d felt bad too, but she had been called by the studio to go down early for some last minute rehearsals. She thanked the stars for the decision of staying in their new home –which was not too far from the studio –the night before, for she could make her way down there alone. Lexi hadn’t been able to see Dante awake before she left, but the message made everything feel so much better, as her nerves calmed down a little more.

“Your boyfriend, Ms. Davis?” Lexi heard someone ask, and she turned to the speaker –Mr. Darren Kelson. Both of them were getting their makeup done in the same room, and while they were supposed to be competitors, they had gotten on to be good friends –considering the amount of time they’d spent at interviews, photo shoots and meetings together.

“Yeah. I didn’t get to see him in the evening before I rushed down here, so he’s making it up with a message.” She replied, struggling not to smile as the makeup artist lightly brushed her cheeks.

“He wasn’t awake?” Mr. Kelson asked in a surprised reply, and she remembered how Dante hadn’t told anyone about his profession, leaving it to public speculation.

“He keeps night hours.” She replied vaguely. “But he’s been really busy carting me around these few days, so I’ll forgive him today.”

“I know. If I have a girlfriend as dedicated to you as he is, I would be the happiest man on Earth.” Mr. Kelson expressed with a kind smile, and Lexi nodded.

“I am the luckiest woman on Earth to have him.” She agreed.

“Dante is a good man. I talked to him before he left the competition, and he cares a lot for the wellbeing of everyone around him, even strangers. His looks and easy-going personality gives off a Playboy attitude, but beneath that, I can see he is a good lover. You’ve hooked yourself a good man, Lexi.” Mr. Kelson continued further, and though she was surprised at his knowledge of Dante’s character, she couldn’t help but agree with him.

“I’d say the woman he hooked on is quite a good one too.” She grinned cheekily, bringing laughs to Mr. Kelson’s easygoing nature.

The conversation continued on easily, and her makeup was done quickly. With a bid farewell and wish good luck to each other, Lexi left the makeup room to find the producer, to confirm the schedule of things, thinking to find a spare time where she could spend alone in her dresser room –which would mean she could ask Dante to teleport there and spend some time sharing her anxiety.

She hadn’t gone far before she was intercepted by a member of the crew. She recognized the man as the guy who had interrupted Dante and her time in the kitchen during the day of the home interview, and felt a small blush rise her cheeks, though the man seemed all business now.

“Ms. Davis,” He expressed with his thick Russian accent, “could you come with me for a moment. We need to fix the sound system, and we would appreciate with you could assist us.”

“Didn’t we check it just now?” She asked, a little confused. She had spent the better of the evening at the stage with Mr. Kelson, letting the sound crew work out the problems that had someone gotten into the systems in the one week of disuse.
