Chapter 1

I took in a deep breath as I slid through the small gap and out into the cold air of the night. The cold air whipped my hair around my head frantically.

I let go of the window sill, the cold brick grazing my hands as they slid off the rough surface. I landed on the ground with a loud thud, I waited for a noise or a footstep.

When no noise emitted out of the dark night, I ran across the lawn. Droplets of water soaked my heels as I ran. I started down the familiar road, the cold air bitting at my bare skin.

I had to admit, this never got easier or less frightening. I was constantly looking over my shoulder and gazing deep into the trees, any movement or rustle would set me off.

I flinched every time a car horn sounded in the distance.

I buried my stinging hands into my jacket pockets as I walked along the lonely road. I watched cars roar past ahead of me, I turned off into a dark eerie alley way where the wind was still and the air came out in puffs of mock-up smoke.

Two figures could be seen standing against the wall, one will a small frame and a dainty figure and the other intimidating and bold.

I snuck up on them, the girl, who was pushed uncomfortably against the cold concrete cried out. I wanted to intervene, I felt my blood boil.

"Shut up, bitch" A gruff voice broke the silence, the girl closed her mouth. She was shaking terribly.

Her wide frantic gaze caught mine, I put my finger to my lips and silently walked over to the man who was completely unaware of where I was.

I tapped him on the shoulder lightly. He looked over at me.

"What do you want?" He growled, his face was covered which made it all the more frightening. I could feel blood pump through my veins like a drug as I started to feel the adrenalin kick in.

The man laughed at me, he thought it was funny. What was funny is that I could say my name to him and he'd run off without missing a beat. I simply grabbed his shirt and slammed his body roughly against the concrete, the girl fled with a cry of thanks.

I slammed my free fist into the mans face, my knuckles burned but the pain didn't seem to bother me as I went in again.

I repeated this over and over until an abundance of dark sickly red blood flowed out of his nose and he was cowering away.

I left him to cradle his face in the dark and continued on my walk. Luckily for me, the place I wanted to be was only a couple blocks away.

I made small distance without running into another stupid bloke or damsel in distress. I was already late, I knew I'd get a frown of disapproval from Jacob.

My hand, the one without bloody knuckles, rapped on the door. I was so eager to get into the warm house.

The door opened, warm air and gold light spilled out of the entrance. I smiled warmly at the girl, she was probably one of the boy's new girlfriends, I knew that they wouldn't last long.

I entered the house, as soon as I did I had Jordan by my side.

"Fucking hell, Cora" He picked up my hand and mended to the blood and sores.

Jordan was like a big brother to me and that might be cliche, but it is what it is. I've known him since I was about eleven, he was a good boy until we entered high school.

My parents banned me from being in a fifty metre radius of him after his first suspension. I, however, did not plan to let him go so quickly.

We met up in private, we weaved through my parents gazes and grew up to be very close. Then Jordan got involved in all of the gang business and the rebellious idea of joining him was so tempting and such a good way to get back at my stuck up Dad, I could not resist.
