Jack's best guy friend, Conner, has a girlfriend named Jessica (a.k.a. Jess).
Conner plays football, baseball, and track. However, he's secretly a nerd. He has a GPA of 4.25 because of his classes in the Science and Medicine Academy. Because of this, he's also very involved in NHS by being the president. He plays viola in orchestra, too. As you can guess, he's very popular and all of the girls like him.
Jess plays field hockey, volleyball and is on the swim team. She is also involved in chorus, class president, PTSA, NHS, and SCA. Her GPA is 4.3 in the STEM Academy. And the same is for her; all of the boys like her.
Conner and Jessica: The Power Couple. So this power couple seems so perfect, right? Oh, trust me they're not. They have their issues.
Every season each of them play a sport so most of their days are filled with practices and games. The days they don't have on the field, court, or pool they are working in other activities like volunteer work for NHS and PTSA or homecoming committee for SCA. Their only free time to see each other is possibly on the weekends if they don't have a sports practice. They don't even have classes together really because of their academies. Maybe PE or lunch or Spanish.
So if you never see your boyfriend or girlfriend that much, how do you talk? Text or call maybe but when? You don't get relaxation time. And the time you do get there's homework to do.
Jess was tired of it. How can you keep a real relationship when you never talk to your boyfriend?! They'd been dating for 2 years, since they were in 7th grade. She liked him so much and Conner liked her a lot too, but it just wasn't working. She had to end the stress of having an almost imaginary boyfriend.
Jess called Jack to see what he thought about her wanting to break up with Conner.
"Well, I can see why you would want to," Jack said after Jess told her story. "I don't blame you one bit. It's just been so long..."
"I know that's why I feel so sad and conflicted. Should I or should I not?" Jess stated as she held back tears of frustration.
"Jess. If you're not happy, which you aren't, you should. You're not happy and a relationship should be happy."
"You're right. I have to tell him. I like him but I can't do this anymore."
"Tell him in person, if you have time, you busy bee."
Jess laughed and said, "Yeah, when I have literally a second to relax."
"Yeah, true. Well, you will and when you do, do it so you can be happy again," Jack said.
"I will. Thanks for the talk. I feel a lot better now."
"You're welcome. Anytime."
And that was it.
~~~~~~ A day later~~~~~~
It was Saturday. Conner had football practice at 3pm and Jess had to be at school to help weed the courtyard at the front entrance for PTSA at 3 too. Jess thought it'd be good if they met at the park around noon so she could break the news to him.
She texted him and said, "Hey, meet me at City Park at noon. We need to talk."
He responded, "Ok see ya then! *kissy face*"
Jess read it and felt so terrible for wanting to break up with him. She knew she had to though. She got dressed and walked over to the very close and local City Park.
Conner was there waiting for her under one of the covered picnic areas with wooden benches and tables. Jess paused and smiled wryly at her innocent boyfriend, well, soon to be ex-boyfriend.
She walked over and sat down in front of him.
"What's up? Is something wrong? You okay?" Conner asked concerned.
"I'm... I don't know," she said with shacking and sweaty hands. "I just have to tell you something."
"Ok what?"
"I like you. SOOOO much. More than I've liked anyone ever in my entire life. But we're both so busy with school and sports and homework and stuff we never see each other. I don't know how I can be a good girlfriend if I never see you or can talk to you. For this reason, and this reason only, I have to break up with you. I don't think you'll want to but we can still be friends."
"I... I think you're right. We don't have time for each other anymore. I wish we could make it work but I just don't think it will. Just know I'll always like you. I don't know about you but I will," Conner said to Jess' surprise.
"You aren't upset? Oh my gosh I thought you'd be devastated!"
"I'm fine. I agree with you 110%."
"Oh... Ok. And by the way, I'll always like you too. Maybe we can try again when we're not busy every second of our lives."
Conner and Jess laughed and smiled at each other.
"Well, I have to go to the high school for PTSA. I'll see you at school I guess. I don't know whenever I guess," Jess said relived and stress-free.
"Sounds like a plan. I have to go to football so it's good. See ya later," Conner said, also relived.
They went their separate ways but had hope that later it might just work...
