CHAPTER 2-

"Really?" I said in shock. I never really did know my father, and now I do. Now that I'm mentioning it, I never really thought about it. This just didn't seem right to me. Not for a kit. My head started spinning and soon enough, I couldn't see my paws. Everything went dark. When I opened my eyes, unidentifiable cats were standing in front of me. But where did Darkness and Scourge go? "Hello, Brightkit," I heard a dark brown striped tom with amber eyes say, "we've been expecting you." "Expecting me?" I wondered out loud. "Tigerstar," an old black cat said, "I don't recall appointing this meeting with a KIT."

"Nightstar," Tigerstar countered,

"I don't recall being killed in one blow." Nightstar had fury in his eyes.

I looked at Tigerstar's pelt, Which had a long, deep wound in it. Then, a cat that looked somewhat like Tigerstar stepped forward. "Tigerstar," he said, "may I?" Tigerstar dipped his head.

"You may, Hawkfrost."

Hawkfrost stepped forward. He came only so close enough to mew just so softly into my ear. "Brightkit," he whispered, "I have a very special gift for you." He backed away and came up to my nose. There wasn't any time for questions. As he touched me, his nose practically freezed my nose off. Soon, I was staggering around. My head spun with thoughts of battle strategy and bloody claws.

Bad thoughts. My pelt started turning black and became

short-haired, except for right above my eyes so it looked like I had bangs. I pelt and my body became slimmer and I became taller. My tail twitched with a sharp point. My green eyes became a starry blue and full of indistinguishable flames. My claws became sharper. I could extend them twice!

"W-w-what's h-happening to me," I said in fear. I realized that my voice became a light taunting sound, like a queen which has been in pain. My mother would be furious if she heard me talk like that!

"Hawkfrost, you dirty piece of

fox-dung! What was that 'gift' you gave me?" I yowled.

A smug Hawkfrost backed away, putting his tail on Tigerstar.

"Just remember this," Nightstar said. "One will become two, shadow will meet bright, and the shadow cats will rule all." Before I could ask more, Tigerstar, Hawkfrost, and Nightstar started to fade away. I was spinning once more.
