"You too!" I shouted back.
What a nice lady! Anyways, let's find out where Alessandro is!
I suddenly began to feel positivity. It was strange just how good I felt. And to think I was actually excited about doing something I can't explain. I suddenly began running in eagerness up the staircase. I lost track of all the decks I cleared. A few leftover students gave me curious glances on my way up. I was at the top deck in the matter of what felt like seconds. The deck was the size of a two gladiator arenas, and scattered across it were only a couple dozen students who were in no hurry to leave the ship. I walked over to the balcony. Several freshly graduated Morphers took to the skies, and others embraced their long-missed families on the piers and beaches below. I looked around me and finally asked the question I should've asked in the first place.
What now? I asked the conscience.
Take your shard. Hold it in both of your hands. It is you, you are it, you are one entity. It will give you what you need to reach Alessandro if you accept that. You must trust yourself.
I remembered how I had connected with my Shard earlier. I just had to focus on it. Ask no questions, but trust in the Shard. The shard opened up, and I protectively clutched it and bought it close to my abdomen. My eyes closed, and I tried to imagine a hypothetical connection between me and the Shard.
Suddenly, it stopped. I opened my hands to see the Shard missing. Before I could panic, I felt an unbelievable force of energy pass through me. My arms automatically outstretched, my spine arched backwards, and my whole body glowed a bright purple tinge. I stood still on the spot, my muscles and joints locked in place. I couldn't make a sound, and couldn't move anything at all. The purple glow around me grew in size and brightness by the second, and it began to block out anything else. A few worried voices called out to me. They became distant to the ear. The voices were eclipsed by an ear-piercing thrumming coming from all directions. Five seconds after the initial energy burst, everything was blinding white.
I didn't feel any pain, but it was like getting struck by lightning without the electrocuting feel. It felt like......I was the lightning, I was the energy.
Without any indication of stopping, it did. Whatever had just happened to me was over. My worldly emotions returned. Worry and caution above all else. I was afraid to open my eyes. By not moving, I felt nothing; which is exactly what I wanted.
Go where your wings take you, that is where you will find him.
Hearing these words made me realize that I didn't have to be afraid.
As I opened my eyes, I flapped the wings I somehow knew I had, and launched from the deck and into the skies.
A few people gasped and exclaimed below me. In a matter of seconds, I was what felt like miles above the ship.
I knew the way to Alessandro. But how? I was feeling....absent from my body.
At Hyperborea, we learned how Shards interact with our very personality; and over time; become a part of it. If I really am an Echelon Five, it would probably explain how I became accustomed to it so quickly. In fact, so quickly, that I never even knew I had it in the first place.
As I was flying, a thought came to mind: Am I in control of it, or is it in control of me?
The voice responded again.
