THE DEVIL'S DEED

CHAPTER -23

Sleeping in the candle wood cabin of the meadow  house was so comfortable and uninterrupted by the daunting nightmares. I was awaken by Nat as she threw something  hard against me telling "Wake up, Hazel.. ".

I partly opened my eyes to see what she flinged to me. It's a helmet.. Why do I need this..??.l pushed it away and looked at Nat who is all ready to leave somewhere.. She is dressed in T-shirt and shorts. She said as she strapped a similar helmet on her head "We are going for a ride.. ".

Why do we need helmets in the car..?? I pulled the blanket around my head and told "I will see you then.. ".

Nat tweaked away the blanket from me and said "I said we are going.. ". She pulled me up from the bed.. God.. She is serious.

I dressed up and walked out of the house with the helmet she gave me. Nat is standing with two bicycles parked in front of the house.. Alright now I understand why I need this..

"You gotta be kidding me.. ",I told walking to her.

"Nope.. ",she said already climbing upon one. "This will be so much fun..". Really..!!.

I put on the helmet and hoped on mine. It had been too long since I rode one. Nat lead the way and I just followed her. The path is too narrow just sufficient to accommodate one behind the another. On the right of the path are the hills and on the left it's steep valley crowded with trees and shrubs. The trees grown on the hills obscuring the sun and the surrounding appeared all dark though it's early morning.

"So.. Is this what you and Everett did in your last vacation here..? ",I asked cycling behind her..

Nat answered slowing down her ride "We did a lot of things..Girl friend boyfriend stuff.. You want some tips..? ".

Yikes.. "That's gross, Nat.. ",I told catching up with her.

"Come on, girl.. I am just helping you..".she said laughing.

"You are a very.. ",I didn't complete as I lost my balance as the front wheel jerked upon a small rock that I didn't see. The wheels went zig zag twice through the path and the bicycle tripped down into the valley along with me. Shit...

I flinged out of the bicycle and rolled down through the steep abyss surpassing many plants and trees on the way.. Until I stopped hitting on the bark of the tree... God... This was a long ride. I lied on the ground for a while smelling the mosses on the wet soil. I think I broke something..

I woke up panting and took off the helmet that still clinged on my head. You saved my little skull.. I looked on my elbow to see it wounded and bleeding.. And my back aches.. Blood and bruises are usual for me.

"Hazel... Hazel can you hear me..? ",I heard Nat.. Her voice too far. But thank-you she is still around.

"Yeah... I am right here.. ",I called out loud enough for her to hear.

"Tell me you are fine.. ",she called out again.. Her voice is echoing all around. You are gonna wake all the wild animals around.

"Yeah.. ",I replied.. Except for my elbow and.. Oh.. My knee too.. I am all malfunctioned by now.

I heard her wail again "I am coming for you alright.. Just stay there.. ".

"Okay.. ",I told. I am not going anywhere. I walked to the bicycle that lied a few feet away from me. Oh.. It's all devastated. The front wheel and the handle are detached. The billionaire boy Everett won't be worrying about a bicycle, isn't he..?

I sighed and sat on the ground leaning my back to the bark of a tree waiting for Nat. But how long I am gonna sit here..??.. There must be a way down here meeting the one from hill top. Once I find and took it, Nat could find me easily..I changed my decision. I am going.
