Before assuming the role of commander in chief of our esteemed Great Nation, Donald Trump traversed a path not unlike that of you or me.
To be fair, there were distinct differences....
Donald J. Trump possessed vast wealth, presided over a thriving enterprise, and boasted proudly of his accomplishments-But, who wouldn't? Adore him or loathe him, there wasn't a man throughout the state who didn't know his name. TRUMP was a brand that extended far beyond the confines of New York, leaving an indelible mark on the world.
The Trump brand, the name itself, even anything remotely associated with it sparks much controversy. The successful-ness of Trump can be debated by many affiliating it with success of failure. Through the years, the Trump organization has managed to survive; on the contrary, his marriages have ceased.
He could manage to keep his business thriving even with the deepest of plummets, why couldn't he say the same of his marriages?
Donald could flaunt his negotiation skills, but why couldn't he do the same as a husband? Sure, he could have a love life, filled with many girlfriends, but that was the furthest extent of his love life.
This didn't mean he couldn't get a wife. Donald was more than capable of getting on one knee, but after a year, the marriage would end in divorce. Each time court papers would be signed legalizing the marriage and each time court papers would be signed ending the marriage.
Donald could make a business and break a marriage. Was he even capable of having a long-lasting relationship, filled without defeat or unhappiness?
Typically, marriages are built upon the bedrock of enduring love and loyalty between two individuals. They unite under tender vows, intended to withstand the test of time. In Donald's case, these vows were severed by divorce papers.
Like most individuals, he craved companionship - a yearning for the sincere expression of "I love you," a desire for someone to return home to after a long day, and the satisfaction of knowing that his feelings of intimacy and devotion were reciprocated.
Most of the women Donald engaged with were mere ornaments for social appearances, incapable of eliciting genuine love from him. And even if he did experience such emotions, they were never returned. Though unspoken, such matters pervaded his thoughts.
As he approached his twilight years, the fact that he spent them alone became embarrassing.
Given the opportunity, many would opt to change or amend elements of their lives. Donald was no exception, desiring to spend more time with his children, visit his mother more frequently, and be the husband he should have been. While he could not completely absolve himself of blame in the dissolution of his marriages, the same could be said for his wives. Lies, suspicions, and infidelity tainted each relationship.
One union, however, stood apart from the rest. A connection founded on mutual love.
Marla Maples, the Southern belle who captured his heart at first sight. In the quiet hours of the night, he reminisced about those days - the arguments and disagreements. Yet, it was not always so tumultuous. Donald had changed more than most people realized.
Yes, he might have a well-known reputation as a womanizer, flaunting his wealth. There was no denying this aspect of his persona. However, now it had become a facade he maintained solely for appearances. The women who accompanied him to various events were nothing more than props; he simply did not wish to attend alone..
Most women that he slept with were only for a moment of pleasure he was lacking. There was no real enjoyment.
Affairs had long lost their allure and excitement. It took more than a decade to recognize the true cost of disloyalty within a marriage.
Marla and Donald both played a role in what could have been. Even the divorce was much like their marriage-heated and blown out of proportion.
After all these years, would they still feel that same sense of burning passion?
