Dedication: @Coloured_Pencils thanks for voting! ————————————————————— Celie and I hit off immediately and it was now one in the morning.
We talked about everything. Just like old friends. From exes to embarrassment moments, we covered so much about our lives.
And there was still more to talk about.
"Okay Celie, time to spill the tea. How do you feel about Damian?"
Immediately her lighthearted countenance changed and Celie looked down shyly, "Actually, he was a childhood friend. I've known him forever."
My interest piqued. "Oh really," I squinted my eyes suspiciously, "he was just a "friend" ?"
" No really, he nev- I mean yeah we never did anything..." Her voice trailed off and she got a faraway look in her eyes.
I was not convinced. I knew she was hiding something. But not wanting to pry too much I asked another question, "Was he always arrogant and aggressive?"
At this Celie smiled and shook her head, "I could never say a word against him."
I scoffed, "You're kidding."
"I'm not. He helped me during one of the darkest moments in my life."
The mood immediately changed and I didn't fill the silence. My eyes encouraged Celie to go on.
But it wasn't hard for Celie to elaborate. She had made peace with her troubles and I listened with admiration as she entrusted me with her past.
" My dad was always an alcoholic, but one night it got out of hand. I fled to Damian, and he let me use his apartment for as long as I needed," she paused, " I stayed there until I got back on my feet and here I am." She spread her arms out and I struggled to close my shocked mouth. Celie grinned, closed my jaw, and continued, "I will never stop being grateful."
I yawned and knew my bed was calling but I needed to ask one last question, " But there has to be a reason why he's so...so the way he is now?"
Celie's eyes hardened and responded with one word, " Olivia."
I begged her to say more but she refused, " That's a story for Damian to tell."
~
The ceiling fan was not hypnotizing enough to put me to sleep. I couldn't get out of my head everything that Celie told me. Who was Olivia? Why was Celie hiding that she liked Damian when it was so obvious? Was there more to Damian than I thought?
~
Damian had been laying in bed for an hour now but it was no use. He couldn't get Ever off of his mind. That girl was like sand after a long beach day, hidden in every corner. He remembered all their past encounters and a part of him was disappointed. Disappointed in himself. He had to be better. If he wanted someone different, then he had to start acting differently.
~
I woke up that morning to two bouquets of flowers. One from Kaden... and one from Damian.
My head hit the pillow and my body refused to get up.
Well here's to another great day.
I hope the cosmos felt that eyeroll when it reached the stars.
