   I still had yet to respond. I stood as if his lips' withdrawal had left me frozen in time, unable to comprehend this overlapping tangle of emotions. I couldn't help but stare in sheer disbelief at what Dan had actually just done. He was never one to deceive... so, why now?
   I could see the look on his face sink further into sorrow the longer I stood speechless. "If you won't say anything, then... I guess I'll take my leave." With that, he turned towards the front door, but, resting his hand upon the knob, he glanced back at me. Our eyes met. He attempted a smile, but it didn't last. "I'm really gonna miss you, you know. And I'll never forget all the fun times we had together." For a single moment, I'd managed a smile, reminiscing over some of my favorite memories.
   Hearing the front door finally open, it suddenly dawned on me that once Dan closed the door behind him, he was to never set foot in my home again. Period. Could I live with that, as long as we've known each other? Could I truly live with that?
