She buries her face into my warmth immediately, the fight knocked out of her.
"I can't do this without you Mason," she whispers after a long moment passes, her voice still cracking in pain but her sobs subsided to occasional whimpers.
My arms tighten around her and I inhale her scent before I whisper back. "Sage...I can't do this with you."
I lose my hold and step away from her, immediately turning from the hurt look on her face and walking out of the room.
**Sage's POV**
The women around me all fawn over my pregnancy glow, whatever the hell that means, and pass another gift to me.
I smile politely at the girl who gave me the twentieth pair of booties before Faith hands me yet another pink package.
I comply with the routine for her and her only. She's been the one forcing me from the depths of depression and self loathing. She's been the one helping me grow stronger for myself and my daughter. She's the one who's been there to wake me up when I start screaming so that I don't have to survive through the nightmares' completions. She's the one who has made me me again. She's the the one who has always been there for me and will always be there for me. I was stupid for thinking some boy could ever compare to her loyalty and devotion... She's my only constant.
And also, she's the one who threw me a baby shower. So I have to at least pretend to enjoy it for her sake.
More items pile up around me until Mason walks into the room, instantly casting a silence over the group of chatters.
His eyes find mine and they look even more broken than mine.
"It's time for your sonogram, Sage."
I nod in acknowledgement before turning back to the ladies of the pack. "Thank you all. The gifts are beautiful and the party was great. I'm so thankful to have all of your support," I say politely, smiling at the room.
I turn to my sister as they all begin standing up to chat some more or file out. "Faith would you mind helping me up?"
She nods and quickly stands to pull me to my feet. My hand rests on my very pregnant belly and I practically waddle over to my void mate. Faith is quick to skip off to find her own mate- she only ever leaves me when Mason is looking after me. God, Carver must hate me.
"How was your partly?" He asks stiffly when the pressure of the silence becomes too much to handle.
I give him a sideways glance before scoffing. "Do you really have to do this every time we're alone?"
"I'm just being civil, Sage. Why do you have to make this more difficult?" He groans, running a hand through his hair is exasperation.
"Because you can't just talk to me like we're friends after telling me you don't want me," I growl out, looking away from him so he can't see the effect that those words had on me and continue to have every time I remind us of them.
"Our daughter shouldn't grow up in a world where we can't even be polite to one another. That won't be easy on her, Sage."
"Her life was already going to be a challenge. I killed her brother, remember?" I snap at him, stopping my forward motion to glare at him.
