Smile

You say I'm a laughable person

That I have a beautiful smile

My smile is always filled with happiness and light

But what if I told you

That you were wrong

You give me a questioning look

Filled with confusion and curiosity

'what do you mean? It's true' you say

I laugh at your incompetence

I know it's not your fault

But I can't help it

What if I told you

I only laugh cause that's who I'm known to be

A laughable person

What if I say that smile belonged to the old me

That I'm just a hollowed version of her

Stealing her smile and using it as a fake

That smile that's filled with happiness and light

Is actually shadowed by darkness and negativity

What would you think?

What would you say?

You seem surprised by my statement

You say it's not true

That I'm lying to you

But why would I lie about something like that

Why would I do that to you?

When I want to keep you happy

I watch as you listen

To my elaborated explanation

With a serious expression

And tears filling your eyes

Oh no

What have I done?

I never meant

I never meant to make you cry

Would you like to know the reason

The reason why I still try

Why I try to put on a smile and produce a laugh

Are you interested to know

Well it's because of you

It's because of all the individuals who fill my heart

My reasoning behind me still being here

Is for all of them

I want to keep them happy, content

And filled with joy and laughter

That's my reasoning

The reason why I even bother to keep a smile on my face

So thank you

Thank you for being here

You keep a smile on my face

And allow a laugh to escape through me

Even if it's fake

Your the cause of it

You let out a small laugh tears rolling down your cheeks

I reach out and wipe down the glistening drops off your flustered cheeks

You give me a smile and say 'No.Thank you. Thank you for telling me. 

Thank you for keeping a beautiful smile on your face'

And with that

We both hug

We cry

We laugh

And we most definitely smile

So thank you

Thank you for allowing me to keep on smiling
