I look down to my phone and typed a text out ‘Hope all is good’ then deleted it again before hitting send. It’s been a week since I got Leo’s number and each time I go to send a text I chicken out thinking it isn’t good enough; even the simple ‘hi’. I haven’t heard from him either which makes me want to send one even more, to keep the contact going. He gave me his number so surely he wants to hear from me, but he said if I was in town again to drop him a line. I can’t think of a good enough reason to go back apart from seeing him and I don’t want to lie about looking at property and have him wasting his time.

“We’re going out, go get ready” Joe’s voice interrupts my thinking

“What” I ask looking up to him from the other side of the desk “I’m working”

“You haven’t been out in ages, I feel neglected and you’re not looking too good either”

“I look fine”

“No you don’t, you look tired and grey so Henry say’s you must go out”

“There’s nothing wrong with me” I complain. Ok, I haven’t fed properly recently because I’ve been busy travelling to see Leo which takes a lot of energy and I’ve mostly been snacking on animals, but I’m still functioning well enough

“When was the last time fed properly and had proper release” he crossed his arms over his chest

“I don’t have to talk to you about that, my sex life is my business”

“You’re walking around half the time hard. You’re a Vampire; you need sex as much as you need blood, it’s part of us” his voice lowered so any passing guests couldn’t hear.

I was hard half the time because I was thinking about Leo; he just had that affect on me.

“I don’t like ‘just sex and feeding’ and I’m not hard”

He jumped over the desk, coming behind me and whispered into my ear ‘I can soon sort that out’ then wrapped his arms around me

“And I bet you’d enjoy it, but it’s not happening” and tried to remove his arms

“Say you’ll come to the with me and I’d let you go” then nipped at my ear

“I got to work the bar in half hour”

“No one’s around so Henry’s letting you off early. He’ll cover if someone shows up”

“Ok, get off me and I’ll come” I know I’d never win this, especially with Henry involved

He planted a kiss onto my cheek and let me go. I got up wiping the space his lips have just been and gave him an evil glare; why did he have to do that. He just smiled grabbing for my hand and leading me to our room. On the way I said I’d text Chelsea to see if she wants to come. I haven’t really seen her recently either, only sent a few texts

“No, just you and me like the old days”

I sighed. I guess it had been a few decades since just we hung out, usually Carlos or Jenny joined us so I agreed.

Of course the club was quiet; it was a Thursday night but I preferred it like this. The music wasn’t as loud and the air wasn’t as filled with sweat and perfumes. We sat at the bar chatting about the old times quietly, I ignored any attention coming my way because I wasn’t interested in them or what they had to offer; the only person who held that was miles away and no matter how much I tried to see something nice in someone, it wasn’t enough.

“You’re getting too fussy” Joe moaned when I yet again ignored a girl who tried to make conversation

“No I’m not”
