"When are we going to get there? Where is there anyways?" I complain, dragging my feet across the dusty ground behind Mathilda.
"'Lise, it's a surprise. We are almost there, though," replies Matt, still briskly striding through the Red Cedar patch.

"Ah, here we are," sighs Mathilda. She walks up to one of the large Cedar trees and gives it a good pat.
The hight of the tree is about average to the rest of the Cedars, but this one has a peculiar look to it. Its trunk is much thicker. Much, much thicker, actually. Soon, I spot what gives it the peculiar look; its bark has a slightly more aged look to it in a certain spot near the bottom, and that spot is a door.

Tons of qestions run through my head, but one is the strongest. Is this acctually as weird as it looks?
I mean, it's probably just a really cool looking play house in the bottom of the tree, right? Right? Although, how many high schoolers have playhouses? Wait, but uh...Tyrell is about the age for a playhouse! Yeah, that's what this must be.

Well, so much for the little pep talk...it hasn't really convinced me of anything. Unfortunately.

Opening the door so I can see in, Mathilda steps back to give me a look. The inside of the tree is hollowed out so that there is just enough room for two full sized people to stand straight up in it. If it weren't for the bright sun today, though, the tree's cavern would be completely black.
I step around to the opposite side of the tree and notice an identical door on this side as well.

"Cool hideout, fort thingy," I say, uncomfortable about this whole, seemingly normal trip.
Silence.
"Matt?"
"It's not a hideout," she says quietly, staring holes into the ground. "Then what is it?" I ask, now qenuinly curious about his whole thing.
Why did Matt seem like she had something up her sleeve? And like I was totally not getting it?
I hear Mathilda suck in a quick breath.
"Just...come with me," and with that she steps through the door and into the trunk of the tree. What else can I do but follow her? So, into the tree I go.

"Arggg! Mathilda, I didn't tell you, but I am scared....gulp...of the dark," I whisper, because Matt had just shut the door!!!!
"Oops, sorry! Don't worry, just keep holding my hand. Your waiting will have paid off soon," she tells me through the thick darkness. That sets my mind somewhat at ease, hearing Matt's regular jovial voice back again.
Suddenly, the door opposite to the one that we entered through swings outward and the darkness of the tree is replaced by sweet sunlight.

I run out of the tree trunk, happy to see light again and glance behind me to Matt who is taking her time.
"Matt, what the heck was th-" I shift my glance back to the space infront of me.
"-this," I finish my sentence, not in the way I expected.
Infront of me is NOT Tybee Island. It's not the Red Cedar grove that we were standing in a minute ago. Far from it.
Sure, I have MILLIONS of questions, but I know, this is the surprise.
"Welcome," shouts Mathilda, "to Amador!"

*/ Sorry for the short chapter! I did have this chapter planned to be longer but the ending  is better just left on it own, I think.
So?! What do you think?
